Mothering Sunday

I was up and about quite early and took Cookie for a longish walk before Anya and family picked me up. We went to The Cuckoo public house in Alwalton and were joined by Louis’s parents for a very nice Mother’s Day meal. A photo of Isobel by th entrance when we were leaving.
Then we all went to Ferry Meadows and I can now reveal a secret I have kept to myself since my last visit. Isobel has been learning to ride a bike at Ferry Meadows where there is a bike renting scheme. I have pictures of her then, on a different bike yesterday, and today!

Well done Isobel, and she is now th owner of the bike she has been learning on.
A picture of a carved statue and a couple of the steam train passing by.

Anya dropped me off a Rachel’s where we have had a quiet afternoon. Lee got in touch so got to talk to the American family on FaceTime.
A good day and heading back home tomorrow.

Day in Peterborough

This morning I took a very excited Cookie out for a walk even though Skip had taken her out already. We went to Itter Park which is one of her usual walk destinations. It is a lovely little park, pretty quiet today, did see some other dog walkers.
Miles has a nice little car now, just has to pass his driving test and he is away.
I also took a walk up to the post office, so it has been a good step week! Anya and Isobel came to collect me and I really enjoyed watch her swimming lesson, she is now in the deep end and is jumping in. The downside it is so hot where you watch that you come out cooked! Went back to there house to have lunch, took this picture of Isobel before they dropped me off in town.
I walked through the town, bought a few bits and took a couple of pictures, one in the square and one in Queensgate before I caught the bus up to Morrison’s.

I was pretty pooped by the time I got back to  Rachel’s but after a rest I took Cookie out for another walk to the park.
Had a nice bath to relax and couldn’t get the plug out, had to get out to find something to dislodge it and then climb back in as the shower screen stopped me just reaching in to the plug!
Just relaxing now, Cookie will get on the settee with me and sleep on the bed tonight.

Off to dog sit!

I sealed the bird feeder with the Beast glue last night to make it water tight so this morning I put it out in the bushy area. Also took a picture of Rob who is using a large shredding machine to get rid of out mountains of branches!

I caught an earlier bus into Hull so that I could go to Jessops and see if they could do anything’s no with my camera. It is most likely grit or sand that has jammed it, which I had pretty much worked out for myself. Could have sent it away but have left it for now, still borrowing
Darren’s camera at the moment. Sat and had my sandwich in the town and took a picture of the buildings from a slightly different angle, also of a whacky ‘Rule Britannia’ moment, the girl had a brilliant voice though!

I had a drink from a stall outside the station and thought this sign was pretty clever.
Then noticed this really interesting plaque inside the station.
The trains were pretty much on time and Rachel met me at the station. They are setting off fairly early in the morning then it will be just me and Cookie!

Trip to Driffield

This morning the Ringtons man arrived early and Tina treated me to a great time with goodies in that looks like a toaster!
After that Tina and I spent a while out in the garden digging up some of the tree roots where the bushes had been cut down. We managed to remove quite a few. Tina went off to have her hair cut and I got ready for our trip out when she was home.
We went to Driffield, the first car park was full as it was market day, but we found the ne near the centre of the town. We walked past some stalls and found a little cafe called The Bees Knees. Very nice atmosphere in there and very reasonable prices. This picture was on the wall, given to the owners by children they used to foster.
We ordered ham, egg and chips and waited for an age, but we were quite relaxed about it. Just the couple running the place. When it arrived they were the best chips ever, apparently cooked in an air fryer, definitely worth the wait!
We had a fixed parking ticket, but had time to have a wander round the town.

We went to a country store then, got some compost on offer and I spotted some Wright’s Coal Tar soap, I absolutely love it and haven’t seen any for ages.
We called in at a Lidl as well and I got this bird feeder but have sealed the drainage holes and will use it in the bushes where I put mealworms for the tits, but as a water feeder. They are more likely to be safe from the cats if they stay in the bushes.
This evening I have filled the raised beds with compost and have watered the flower beds and bonsai trees.
Will get sorted for my dog sitting trip in a bit.

Veg prep, sea and garden

This morning I had agreed to go and prepare the veg for the monthly lunch at the URC hall. I was a little early so had a quick wander in the memorial garden and saw this beautiful tree.
The veg prep was okay, I ended up doing the majority of it again but it only took about an hour so not too bad. I did hang my coat up this time so it didn’t go walk about again. It was a pleasant day so I walked down to have a look at the sea before I came home.

I liked the muted colours in that second one and especially the strip of light blue.
I walked home via the shop and then did a couple of household chores. I went into the garden and tidied up the large bed behind the wall at the front of the garden and moved some plants that were growing over the stepping stones. I also potted up a few cuttings. My legs were telling me to call it a day so I made a drink and took my book out into the summer house for a bit. Saw a couple of little friends while I was out there.

Darren phoned to say he would be later hope me and he mentioned the sky where he was in Hull was stripy. Not so stripy here but quite dramatic when I went out to look.
Second episode of Bay tonight, should be good.

More of the same!

Spent a lot of the day in the garden, didn’t take many pictures but did clear this bed and planted most of the remaining gladioli.
Did do a before and after of the bed that took me the least time, did water these plants too as it gets bone dry as it is under a large fir tree.

When I went out to post a letter I spotted some lovely daisy type flowers at Countdown. Bought four and did get them planted as well.
I had a couple of tea breaks sitting in the summer house, the second time Charlie decided to keep me company and check out the furniture!

A lady passing the garden as I worked tried my patience. She wanted bluebells, but for me to did them up straight away so she sat on the wall while I went and dug some up in the back garden. I put them it a plastic plant pot. As I reached her she asked if I had a bag to put them in, so off to the house again to find a carrier bag. Then she proceeded to tell me her troubles, nothing new there I hear you shouting no at the screen!
Will be watching Holby in a bit. Preparing veg for a monthly meal for the Living Well project in the morning and then if I am not the stiff, more gardening.

Pleasant day for gardening

I was replacing photos as some people couldn’t see them and now this post is in the wrong place, the one before is today’s entry!
I have been told there will be an update for this app to correct the missing photos, but so far it is not available, I will keep checking. The day started bright and the wind had dropped. Cold first thing as there was a slight ground frost. When I went out to fed the birds I was so happy with the plants from last year have taken and spread.

I decided to do some more work in the front garden, I started carrying on with the area I was working on yesterday then I went across to the bed in front of the other wall. One part wasn’t too bad but the other side had some bushes and I couldn’t get to the weeds, so decided they had to cut me up.

They were linked together so was quite a difficult task, had to go and get the loppers. I did make a reasonable clearance and removed a lot of root.

Took a picture of a lovely tulip that had opened.

These daisy like flowers have appeared on the front lawn.

I managed to get cleared away just before there was a little rain. I tried to watch one of the films I bought yesterday but it kept sticking, so I didn’t get to see it all.
I wrote a couple of letters and went to post them and then decided to take a walk to the sea front. Took some pictures with the photos ne, the first is of a new installation in the Main Street.

I didn’t feel like cooking after the gardening but the little shop on the seafront was closed. Called in to Chip and Gail’s, have passed it many times but never been in. Got very reasonably priced small fish and chips and went an ate them in park. It was pretty dark by then only had to me dog allergy go by and give me an odd did look!

Walk to Morrow Avenue

This morning I walked up beyond the Floral Hall to deliver a letter for Tina. Also got to see Morrow Avenue wher I know that the HUG team do a lot of work. As it is quite a distance I have never actually ventured up there before. I walked via the sea front, the first picture is from a usual vantage point but the others are further along Marine Drive.

The garden at Morrow Avenue is not too colourful at the moment but is very neat and today and is very near the sea and exposed.
I was pretty tired walking back, I think the days of gardening are catchImg up with me and I had almost met my steps target by the time I got home. But I did go out into the garden this afternoon and cleared the bed where the goards were last year and put in some of the new plants. Slowly getting the back garden tidied up as well.

I did have some drinks in the summer house and caught sight of the robin through the window.
I think he had found a mealworm!
May try and get some bulbs in tomorrow!
