Make use of the buses!

An early start today and we were at the pool at seven. Tina building up the swimming and I did some walking in the main pool today as it was quiet. Bit more effort involved as I can walk until the eater is up to my neck, coming back up the slope is harder than you’d imagine. It was drizzling and the sky was great but didn’t head to the sea before we started so took this one as we made our way to the pool.
I went to see the sea and then walked home, I used the new rucksack and that was so much better than carrying a bag with wet swimming things in.
After a few chores nd doing some washing I caught the bus up to the garden centre, the bus stop is a reasonable distance from the centre so a bit more walking that was good. I had a drink and then just bought some peanuts for the birds. I have a large delivery on order but need some for the next few days. I was lucky with the bus back as the one I thought I had missed was running late. Some pretty miniature irises have appeared in the front flower bed.
I went along to the shops this afternoon, wanted some more CBD tablets, not that they have had any effect but will try another months worth. Then into Boyes to buy enough thread to do all the top stitching on the table cover. Don’t want to find I haven’t enough when I am half way through!
I have been getting to grips with Octordle, like Wordle but eight words to find! Pretty tricky but very addictive!
Have been to see Sarah and David this evening and just relaxing before heading for bed. May just do another puzzle!

Bit it this, bit of that

Darren and I left pretty early to go to the boot sale. Looked a lovely day but was surprisingly cold. Not too many stalls and the field was quite muddy. We enjoyed our breakfast sandwich and the only purchase was a nice Pyrex dish, smaller that the ones we have and I deal for a small lasagne or crumble.
I cleared the dining table when we got back ready to do the layering of the table cover, a big job. Pandora was very pleased to have a nice clear sun trap so I was a bit delayed!
I put the backing material on the table first and used pegs to try and help keep it flat!
Then the batting and on top the squared top.
All nice and smooth and then the laborious pinning.
So ready for the quilting now.
After lunch I went in the front garden for a while. Pruned and tidied the bed by the wall at the left, then started to move the fairy garden ornaments. Decided to re-position them by the bay tree. I carried one paver across but then got the wheelbarrow out!
Then it was time to think about dinner. Pity thinking doesn’t actually produce it!
Some good tv tonight and not planning much else today.

Bit of gardening, lot of reading!

The weather has been pretty nice today. I went out and  got the usual shopping and then again to Countdown and the Refill shop as they both open a bit later. I have ordered 25K of peanuts for the birds but don’t know when they are arriving and I only have enough for tomorrow, so Countdown was the place to go to get some reasonably priced ones to feed them until the order arrives. It is good to have a refill store over the road now, although we were always happy with the deliveries from Beverley. I have read quite a lot of the day, never got through a book so quickly. I had no idea that Graham Norton had written any novels until I spotted The Keeper at The Works last week. It was a real page turner and very unusual, I have ordered a second hand copy of his only other novel, hope it is as good.
The other day when I was writing a letter I was looking into the garden and the carpet, that we put down to smother the weeds by the wall appeared to look like grass from a distance. It is actually now my own moss supply!
After lunch I did go out to tidy the front garden u for a while. The two photos really don’t look any different but after pruning and a bit of weeknight I did fill the garden cart!
When I was getting tea I noticed the sky was rounding off a good day with a splash of colour!
I did start one of the new jigsaws yesterday evening but only got the edges done. So maybe a picture when there is something to see!

Not a snappy day!

I have been out a good part of the day, I went to visit Bel thins morning as usual, she was fine and we had a cuppa and put the world to rights as usual!
I went straight for Bel’s to Sarah and David’s, they live on the same street, as we were off to an early showing at the cinema. I will put a photo on that Tina sent to me yesterday and I forgot to post. Pandora in the sunlight, it really does show up her ginger areas.
We went to see The Duke, a very good film based on a true story. Very good and funny in parts, definitely a feel good film. We had left early as there have been terrible traffic jams on the Beverley road. It wasn’t too bad today so we had time for a cuppa and a cake at the cinema before we went into the screening. The temporary lights had been removed on the way home so the journey home was trouble free.
My veg box had been delivered while I was out and good as usual. Lots of salad ingredients along with everything else so I had a cheese salad for tea.
Not done much walking or exercise today so maybe my legs will ache less tonight. The downside of that is that if it is a better night it may encourage me to become even lazier!

Early start again

Tina and ai went to the leisure centre for just after seven again, Tina swimming some lengths again and me walking in the water. We had a good session again and Tina took my bag back in the car and I went to see the sea and walked home. Quite an indifferent day really and quite a chill wind, in fact it began to rain and it felt like sleet when I was on the way back.

I had a drink and sat near the paddling pool. I have always thought it is an accident waiting to happen but do think the actual image is very well designed.
After Ringtons had been and a few household chores done we set off for Driffield. Tina had banking to do and then we had a look round the Yorkshire Trading Company. I wanted to get a rucksack that had a clasp at the front to stop the straps coming off your shoulders. Found this lightweight one and carried the other shopping in it and it was very comfortable and no slipping around!
We had a wander in the town and looked in a couple of interesting shops and then had a nice lunch at a cafe we have been in before. Tina hadn’t been able to get on the charging points so we set off for Lidl at Beverley. The chargers there were in use so I had a look round the shop while Tina sat in hope that one would become free. She was lucky and came into the sh as I was about to leave, so then I sat in the car while it was still charging while she did some shopping. Then she went and got up a drink to have in the car. There was a long traffic jam at the temporary lights but worse in the opposite direction to the way we were going.
I restuck a table protector to use as a layering base for pinning the table cover.it rather defeats the object if I scratch pin holes on the table I am trying to protect! I checked that the batting I got yesterday is wide enough and it is, just!
The weather has been cold and windy and we did see a few hailstones, but there was a fair bit on f sunshine as well. The sky this evening was interesting with pink and dark clouds.
Feeling quite weary now, that is getting to be the norm!

Lovely and colourful Hull

This morning I caught the 10 o’clock bus into Hull but before that I went down the road to buy some batting for the table cover.  The lady in front of me d kept going off and buying more things so I then had to rush to get home and sorted in time for the bus. My main reason for going in was to hunt out some number stickers for Tina but I decided that I would have a walk to the funky bridge that I went very at some point last year. I went via Smiths as the post office is there and I had a card to post that was too big for the postbox on the station! Walking through Smith’s I spotted some nice jigsaws and thought I may call back later and see if the ones I liked were still there rather than carry them about all day. A lot of photos to follow, I walked over the bridge and then detoured to another bridge and ended u outside The Deep. Saw some nice graffiti so an interesting walk although my legs were really rebelling! Will let the pics speak for themselves now.

The bridge is in the far distance on this one!

Loved this sign!
I made my way back into the city and first stop the loos and then a place to sit down with a snack that wasn’t heaving! Half term and it was busy. Had to wait. While for my snack but that suited me fine as my legs were really aching. Then I went to Ryman’s where I got some stickers for Tina and back to
Smiths where I bought the jigsaws.
It was getting on for 5pm by the time I got home so quite a long day and a fair bit of walking by my standards. No plans for this evening except trying to stay awake until bed time!

Tuesday 22 February 2022

Early start and lots of sewing

Tina and I went to the leisure centre for just after 7am, Tina swam some lengths and I did some walking. Tina did join me in the walking for a bit before we got out. We didn’t go and see the sea as Tina needed to get back to get ready for morning prayer. Maybe another time I will walk home and say hello to the sea before returning.
I did go down the road to the post box and get lunch but apart from that have been working on the table cover.
Before endless fabric photos I will go back to the book which I started to ready last night. I have been right off the reading, it is always a more off than on thing with me although I love having books. It is by Graham Norton, I saw it at The Works yesterday.mi didn’t know he had written anything but the blurb sounded interesting and although I have read a lot yet I think I will enjoy it.
The first job with the table cover was working out the order for the side panels so that I could get them joined up. After deciding on the order it was more labels with arrows and numbers,

Got them together and pressed without mishap!
I then had to attach these panels to the main body of the cover. It really is huge, bigger than a lap quilt, so quilt bulky and the lining up could be better, but top completed.
The corners needed trimming, ended up measuring with a ruler and marking one corner, a bit heath robinson, then when one end was cut I copied the shape onto the other end.
Tina has had a busy day and Darren goes out to archery on a Tuesday so I got dinner prepared and now taking it easy. My legs were bad last night and have been very painful today, but they have settled a bit now, which is good.
I need to buy the wadding for the table cover but already have the backing fabric. But not sure I will do the layering tomorrow as that will be challenging, maybe a day off!

Sewing and walking

I have a jug of water in my bathroom, on the floor, as the cats both drink from it! So much better than fresh water put down for them in cat bowls! When I was getting ready this morning Pandora jumped up on the toilet about to head for the sink so I put the jug next to her! She did drink from it there and left me along to finish washing!
I spent the morning sewing the twelve blocks together and getting them pressed. It was confusing I kept thinking I was assembling it wrongly, but it went together pretty well.
The weather was reasonable and I didn’t get out walking much last week so decided to walk up to Freeport and catch the bus home. Setting out the cloud started to roll in but it did brighten a bit for a while.
Although there are plenty of twigs and general debris about these crocuses on the way towards Polly’s Path we’re looking pretty.
Polly’s Path was pretty muddy so I took it very steadily.
I got a couple of bits in Pound Stretcher then had a coffee before getting the bus home. Did I buy a book in The Works which I will mention tomorrow. Waiting for the buts and the clouds were rolling in!
This afternoon when I got back I started assembling the two third blocks for the table cover. Had done the majority when this strip told me it was time for a break!
Did unpick it and sew it correctly and carried on until the first sets of three were all sewn.
Have been to see Sarah and David this evening as I took a test this morning and it was negative.
Not planning to do much after the blog is done, feeling quite weary.
Nearly forgot the last picture, Rachel sent me this earlier, so cute.
