Goodbye for now.

I have been writing the blog now for over four years and at the moment I have decided to take a rest from it. I am sure I will miss it and return at some point and I will still be taking photos.
On Saturday I was going to Peterborough to stay for a couple of nights and planned to see my brother again on Sunday. I really like th shopping mall by Doncaster station, very modern and a good food hall, I r ally must go there for a good look round one day.
That was the entrance, very attractive.
I booked in at the hotel and then Anya and Louis collected me to go and see Isobel in a production at the Key theatre, they manage to get an extra ticket for me. There were four acts with different children, Isobel did well and remember her line. While she was at the after party Anya, Louis, Louis’s par not and I all went and had q very nice meal at the Grain Barge, a Chinese restaurant very near the theatre. Louis went to collect Isobel and she came and sat with us while we finished our meal.
When I got back to the hotel I realised that my rash had flared up a bit again, that was a worry as I was due to visit my brother who is poorly. Never done this before, but couldn’t sleep and ended up catching a taxi to Casualty just after 5.30 am! Not busy and the nurse was lovely, she said I have a mild dose of chickenpox. Went for a walk when I got back to the hotel, Lincoln road was uncommonly void of traffic!
I had walked to a flyover so that is why the road is at that angle. After that a change of plans, no visiting and Anya bought me home early.
Today I have made the first batch of Christmas cakes, will make three more tomorrow.
I have done a bit of planting and watering this evening, the rain is still avoiding Hornsea.
I will say cheerio for now and hopefully will get back to blogging again before too long.

Anyone for apple crumble?

A short entry today and then there won’t be another one until Monday. I am off to Peterborough and then Anya is taking me to see my brother on Sunday. Not  tablet or chrome book and won’t be doing the blog on the phone!
This morning I collected some of the trees from the cooking apple tree in the garden. They are not ready but they seem to bruise and go rotten very quickly once they drop. Also one of the branches was almost on the ground with the weight. I collected one small box of them to prepare today.
I used one of my new sharpeners and they are very sharp! I usually use a knife but it is a bit more wasteful. Had quite a bowl of peelings!
We now have four reasonable sized bags of part cooked apple slices in the freezer. So crumble making in the future I think.
Haven’t done a great deal today, played to much Scrabble with against the tablet and got thrashed. Have been tidying up, changed the bed and did some washing and sorted out hat I need for the weekend.
The rain didn’t reach up so I hav atresia the gardens, the pressure was really low this evening.
Right, that’s it, catch you on Monday.

Think it might be cake making time!

This morning I went to St Lawrence church Atwick as they were celebrating St Lawrence’s anniversary with a coffee morning. A stunning red brick church.
There was a new sign up for a Commonwealth war grave, went to find the grave as well.
Stephen, who has done some work at the vicarage made a fantastic new notice board for the church.
Great street sign there too.
Tina had a wedding rehearsal at the same church a bit later in the day so we went to have some lunch in a Garden Cafe in the fabulously named bug Lane. Interestingly this tiny lacewing was on th car when we came out!
We had time to pay a quick visit to Fraisthorpe beach, which is surrounded by fabulous wind turbines.
Tina had to stop as it as a narrow road so she took that second picture for me. The beach there is lovely too.
After that we went to Bridlinton Morrison’s to do a grocery shop. Well, I say grocery shop but it looks very like it is time to make the Christmas cakes!

Just been down to look at the sky so will add three more pics.

Not a lot part two

This morning I caught the bus up to Freeport as I wanted to buy a different embossing frame but sadly they didn’t have any so will check on lone. Good to see Abi and Mags though. I walked home and tried to see where Elaine’s house is but the numbering was really bizarre, ended up asking a couple of workmen who pointed me in the right direction. Went to the shop as it was my turn to supply cake! Had lunch and then walked to Elaine’s where we sat out in the garden nattering for an hour or so. Saw this cut through on my way and promising clouds!
It looked promising but no sign of rain yet and the sky has brightened again.
I did a bit if bramble clearing for half an hour or so when I got home. The mixed bag of gladioli bulbs seem to be a mixture of all white ones!
The clematis we bought a while ago and it is now like a tree of fluff balls.
Should have a bit more to report tomorrow!

Hello HUG’s

Today the HUG’s team arrived early to do a bit of ore in the front garden. Hornsea Urban Gardeners, they are all volunteers and do lots of great work in the town. They have agreed to get the front garden under control.
I had a chat with them and made them a cuppa, here are a couple of the ladies taking a well earned rest.
I had phoned the surgery to get advice about my spots/rash and they said a nurse would see me today, so I left the ladies at work and walked don to the surgery. The nurse said it isn’t shingles and in her opinion it is bites. So keep on with the cream and hope I don’t get too many more! I walked up to the sea from there and had a cuppa. Nice to see the holiday makers enjoying the beach and the weather.
Took a picture of the cleared area when I got back, they are good no to collect the bags and take them away.
Have spent th qfternoon indoors, did make one more card, I had seen this quote when at the surgery and made a note of it.
Watering the garden today I had to take a picture of the triffids, sorry, gourds. The plants ar taking over. Tina thinks we should plant them on every spare piece of ground next year!
I think I only plants five very small plants at the top of that bank. There are more near the greenhouse and this one particular gourd is spectacular, hope I manage to dry that one!
Hoping the weather may turn cooler tomorrow.

All white hair cut!

Not a long post today, I spent the morning doing a good clean of the downstairs, and washed all the floors that aren’t carpeted. Very humid today and I was sweaty, so had a bath and was even more sweaty! Had lunch when Tina got home, I had some of the beetroot soup I made the other day.
I felt ridiculously tired this afternoon and was struggling to stay awake so went down to the post box and then into the chemist to get advice from a pharmacist about all the spots that I have. She agreed that there are too many to b bug bites, could be a heat rash but she obviously thought that shingles was a possibility.have some cream and will see how it goes.
I am in need of a haircut, should say was as she did it today when I called in to make an appointment. She really cuts well but is a bit scissor happy so I told her that it was just too short last time. The only photo today is a selfie taken with this, she dry cuts so will be better when it is washed again.
Wearing a pair of the boot sale earrings today.
Have had tea and done the watering, won’t do much now, trying to ignore all the itchy spots!

Boot sale and cards

I went along to the boot sale this morning but had a look at the sky and sea first.
Only about a dozen cars at the boot sale but went to investigate anyway.
I actually did pretty well. When Isobel and I were making cakes I realised that we didn’t have bun trays anymore. Got a couple today. I also like the holdalll I have for weekends away but it isn’t wide enough to pack clothes properly. I spotted one at the sale which is more like a case shape but still has wheels and a handle to pull it along. It was also £4 as opposed to £25!
Then last, but definitely not least some much needed earrings!!!
This afternoon I have been using the machine again. Embossed and coloured this one.
Mags suggested that I could perhaps use the dragonfly die a bit like the butterfly one. More complex as the dragonfly is part of a very intricate die, whereas the butterfly was a complete die.
Lastly I thought it was time to try and make a Christmas tree from a set that Tina got me a week ago. Bit fiddly but worth it.
Dinner made and eaten and garden watered, may try a comedy film on the tv tonight.

Not a lot!

I woke up not feeling too inspired to be active, so not a lot to report today. Wandering around, half awake this morning I spotted this crane fly, haven’t seen any for ages, so common when I was a girl!
Darren went off for the weekend and Tina and I went to a coffee morning in the parish hall. We won prizes on the tombola again, some will be put by for the next church fund raiser. Then we went up to Freeport as Mags was demonstrating with the die cut machine. I took my efforts along and she is pleased to see that I am already making good use of the new toy. She showed us how to use inks with the dies, I will try that another day, but also making a 3D effect with a butterfly die. I have had a go at that this evening.
From there we went to Tesco to do a basic household shop and this afternoon I have just made soup and dinner and then watered the gardens.
May try the boot sale at the Inshore rescue boat centre tomorrow, has to be better that the other time I went there and only two cars t urned up!

Sorting and crafting

I went for a walk this morning before it got too hot, it has been very humid and uncomfortable today. I walked by Tesco and onto the trail, the stream has overgrown in fact hard to see that there was a stream there at all.
I was very bad not to mention yesterday that I received more Wild and bloom flowers and this time from Rachel and the family, they are opening today and are lovely.
I made a card last night using images that I had die cut.
It was an old Prit stick so a bit dry, have bought a new one today! I have spent a lot of the day generally sorting the craft stuff and getting stuff ready for charity shop or Ebay.
One of the first things I planted when arriving here were a pack of gladioli bulbs. They were ages appearing and then I thought they wouldn’t flower. But four are starting and this white one is beautiful now it is opening.
I have done a bit more card making this evening, I like the red Christmas one and am very pleased with the embossed flower card.
I am hoping I can get as far as pressing ‘publish’ as I had almost finished it again when I hit the wrong button!
