Thursday 31 December 2015

Today Anya and Louis dropped Isobel off quite early and then they headed off to York for the day. Darren, Isobel and I went down to the beach. I stayed in the hut to start with why they played on the beach for a while. The water came in quicker than they had thought it would and Darren got wet trainers and socks I think!
I went down and joined them for a bit after a while.
Ooh, that's a bit chilly!!
This was just a cute shot of the little water baby, how she loves being on the beach!
This shot was just lovely.
Walking back after a good job done!
With Uncle Darren in the hut!
After a nice drink of hot chocolate at the hut we made our way to the underground  car park near the Valley Bridge. Then to the amusements. Had a nice lunch there and then spent a long time on the machines and winning tickets! Had another drink afterwards, Isobel was pleased with her prizes.
We came home. Isobel and I watched a couple of films and then she played while I went and made dinner for everyone. Darren, Isobel and I ate together and I plated up meals for everybody else for them to have when they got back. Anya and Louis popped in for a while and have now gone home but Isobel is staying with me and she wants to go to the beach with us at midnight!

Wednesday 30 December 2015

This morning Darren took me to the station where I caught the train to Bempton. Anya met me there and we went back to their holiday home. after a while we went off to Sewerby Hall and gardens. Very windy today, it had be ferocious again in the night. Sewerby is an Edwardian house and has had some recent refurbishment. A very attractive house as you approach and a view of the sea from the grounds.
Isobel was fighting the wind so as not to get blown away!
The plant in this picture shows just what the wind was like!
There was a walkway with a row of monkey puzzle trees either side. Even huge ones at the end, I have never seen any so big.
We stopped by a pillar and took pics (for a change).
Went by this incredible tree sculpture.
Then to the walled garden, lots of different areas to explore, would be wonderful to go there on a bright Spring day or even a wind free winter one!

Checking out the sundial.

Lovely Anya by a lovely bush.
This chatty parrot was 'talking' to Isobel, they had quite a conversation going!
There was a small zoo in the grounds but just enough exhibits for the little ones.

There was a play park in the grounds as well.

We did go and have a look round the house, very interesting and in keeping with the period. No photography allowed except in the dressing up area. Isobel didn't want to wear the dresses, did try a hat!
Then a 'must you!' moment!
They dropped me off at the station to catch the train back to Scarborough, just a single platform station and it had been raining a while by then. There was a shelter though. The train approached on time.
I got some Christmas wrapping from Smith's for next year and then made my way home. A bit parcel waiting for me, beautiful flowers from Rachel and family.

Tuesday 29 December 2015

Anya, Louis and Isobel came over this morning and we made our way down to the beach, and of course the beach hut. Isobel and daddy went onto the beach and Anya and I had the deckchairs in front of the hut for a bit.
Then all back to the hut for a drink and chat.
Mmmmmm, nice hot chocolate.....
Isobel's collection from their walk on the beach.
After our drinks the three of them went for another quick wander on the beach. Here they are on the way back.
We had lunch at Teasmaid and then walked to the YMCA theatre where we all enjoyed the pantomime Snow White. We walked into town after the show for a wander around the shops. Isobel looking cute!
We walked back here and had fish and chips for dinner. A fairly long and enjoyable day.

Monday 28 December 2015

Isobel came up to see me yesterday evening and played with my solitaire for a while, she is such a pretty girl.
This morning I made two turkey and ham pies so that we could have one later and Anya and Louis could take one back to the holiday home it they wanted to get back a bit earlier. Late morning They came over to collect me so that I could have lunch with them where they are staying and then take a trip to Bempton cliffs. Had a really lovely lunch and then made our way to the cliffs. The visitor centre is closed over the holiday period, but you could still get onto the cliff paths. Not a lot of birds around but the views were great in a wintry way.
This one was through a gap in the cliffs, will add one of the distant view in a bit. some pictures of Isobel today of course.
It was very 'bracing', that definitely became the word of the afternoon!!
Another one of Isobel.
Then Anya took one of me with Isobel.
Not sure if these were guillemots, could get a clearer picture with the newer camera.
And at last a picture of the view!
We went back to the holiday home for a cup of tea and Louis lit up the burner.
They brought me home and collected the pie with instructions for cooking. The cooker this end didn't seem right again so took longer to cook but it was very tasty eventually. Anya said hers cooked beautifully and they really enjoyed it. Last part of 'Then there were none' tonight.

Sunday 27 December 2015

We had a late Christmas dinner with Anya, Louis and Isobel yesterday, and exchanged presents. I was very lucky ans we had a good evening.
The getting ready for the sprout racing game!
This morning the moon was going down as the sun was coming up, looked lovely as it was a bright morning today.
This morning I walked down to the front to see if the weather had abated. Such a bright morning in the park.
The flooded path was fit for walking down today!
Thought this tree was fab!
Took this picture of a little lass on the beach, the sea was beautiful today.
Tina and I had a trip out at lunch time, we went up to Oliver's Mount. Just one view today, more of the town than the bay.
Took this one of Tina with another great tree!
Then we had a quick walk at the Mere. The swans were doing an awful lot of preening in the water today.
These ducks looked like they were standing on the water but actually their pontoon was submerged!
Anya, Isobel and Louis came for dinner again this evening. They are watching Fungus the Bogeyman at the moment!
