Thursday 31 March 2016

Tina took me up to the station about 8.30 am so that I would be in good time for my train. In the end we need not have rushed as the train was about 15 minutes late! That meant I had about 8 minutes from getting off one train, going to find where my connection was departing and having to go across to the other platforms! I literally got on the last carriage of my train as the doors were closing! Anyway, time to recover then and arrive on time in Peterborough with Mike waiting for me. We had a cup of tea at his place then got a bit of lunch. We both went in and spent a little time with the two elderly ladies we used to visit ( now 96 and 95 years young!) The Mike took me to the Eye Green lake. He used to walk there regularly and we never did get there when lived in Peterborough. It is a very attractive spot and the weather was glorious.

After that I checked in at the hotel, wifi isn't any better than last time. Mike and I went to Ibrahimi's for tea, very good food and atmosphere as usual. Back now and resting for tomorrow's big adventure.

Wednesday 30 March 2016

Looked out this morning and the seagull on a chimney in the bright light just made me thing 'Good morning from Scarborough!'
I had receipts that I wanted to get the loyalty points from added to my card. We thought we would visit The Mere on the way and perhaps have a bacon sandwich, as Tina was feeling a bit better and going to venture out for the first time since Easter. We had a very short walk, it was muddy and we came up to a swan who was feeling very territorial! The cafe wasn't open so we went to Deans to get the points transferred and decided to have breakfast at Sainsbury's. Did take a few pics at the Mere.
Had lots of photos of swans but was pleased with this one.
I walked into town from Sainsbury's, had to collect my train tickets from the station and get one or two other bits. I crossed over and walked to the station from the opposite side of the road to usual. Funny how you notice interesting buildings that you regularly walk by when you see them from a different angle.
One of the primulas that I rescued last year when it was passed its best looks like it will be absolutely gorgeous this year.
This afternoon I have been getting the case packed as off to Peterborough tomorrow and then off to Centre Parcs with Anya on Friday! I also decided that I would get the sewing machine out and make the patchwork I was doing yesterday into a cushion.
What a treat of a sky again tonight!

Tuesday 29 March 2016

Yesterday evening it seemed that Jeremy had moved on, or was at least having a trip away as he was missing from his 'pond'. This morning I went outside to prune and re-plant the rest of the bonsai trees. Jeremy was on the concrete not looking at all happy, in fact I wasn't sure he was alive. I did sprinkle some water from the garden on him and he livened up a bit. this was before.
I didn't realise for a while that one of his back legs was damaged, He started to move a bit, and when I went out this afternoon to check he was nowhere to be seen, so I am not sure what injured frogs do. Will keep my looking out for him. I took a walk into town and called in to see Sandy at the studio, she had a family in and another one arriving as I headed home. It had begun to rain by then but cut through to have a look at the bay. Quite grey but made for different pictures. The castle end.
And the Sea Life end.
Went out this evening a took a picture of my freshly planted bonsai that most resembles an actual tree!!
This afternoon I have watched the last of my Taggart episodes and have been starting to make and assemble a craft kit that arrived with my magazine today.

Monday 28 March 2016

Took this rainy shot through the window yesterday evening, I made sure you had some aerials to remove Mike!!
This morning was wet, grey and windy and I was feeling less than energetic so pottered indoors. I watched a Taggart, so enjoying this set but only have one left to watch now. Early this afternoon the day cleared up a bit so I headed out for a walk into town. Passing this sheltered complex I was impressed by just how many daffodils there were!
I crossed over and had a look in the Sewing Centre window. They always have quilts on display and I wanted to try and get a closer look. they are great, but I was pleased that they did not all line up perfectly, made me feel a lot better.
I have walked by this cafe at least once a week since I lived here, but usually in between the cafe and the bus stops, so have never registered what it was called before!
Walked down Huntriss Row where there are a lot of jewellers, I wanted a small trinket box as a present. Didn't find one there but carried on to the end so that I could get a look at the south bay sea today.
Walking back along Castle Street I took a picture of the castle in the distance.
A final sky picture for my fellow sky lovers, I know there are a couple of folk out there that enjoy the changing skies as much as I do. May watch the last Taggart and then Maigret. so a pretty lazy evening ahead.

Sunday 27 March 2016

Had a really bad night, still coughing but the real problem was my knee just ached and I couldn't make it feel comfortable at all. But Darren and I still set off early, despite the clocks going forward, to attend the first boot sale of the season. It was bright, but the wind was very strong and cold, and the field where the sales are held is both open, near the sea and high, so it was freezing! Got a lovely little sugar and creamer set, saw it on the way round and said I would think about it, they were asking £3, decided I would go and see if it was still there before we came home and the guy said I could have it for £1. Bargain of the day, of all metals copper is probably my favourite, not that I really need any more knick-knacks!
Apart from getting dinner I have been working on the 'oddment' quilt. I probably wouldn't have started a double sided one if I had thought it through, but once started on the challenge I had to see it to the end. The borders, or the patterns for that matter, don't really line up, but I did freehand quilting patterns ( with no feed feet on the machine of a pressure foot. At least deciding on borders meant that the patterns remained complete! First side.
Second side.
And folded to prove they are actually the same quilt!!
Wet and windy tonight, hopefully it will settle down a bit soon.

Saturday 26 March 2016

I was awake at 5.30 am and doing a puzzle in bed by six o'clock, between a lot of coughing! I went for a walk just after 8 am to drop off a couple of cards and see the sea. I cut through Trafalgar Square, don't walk that way often and it had a nice little quiet area in the centre.
Thought this garden on the square was pretty, a lot were not tended at all.
I cut through to the cliff top and took a picture of this tiny little property which I wish had my name on it!!
Very windy on the cliff top as Katie rolled in, unusual cloud over the castle.
Checked on the trees and plants when I got home, wind really up again now. Jeremy is fine in his pretend pond!
I have been working on the quilt, this is the second side.
Then both folded complete with their borders.
I went down to get dinner for us and then came back and tried to layer the quilt. No easy task and I don't think the two sides are even the same size!! I may get the free hand embroidery foot out and have a play before I start the quilting. I ordered some photos on line a couple of days ago, some to send to people I write to who don't use the internet and an enlargement for me from my trip last week. I have put the picture in a frame with my signed photo of Charles. It will sit on my computer desk so that I will see it and it will make me smile every day! Got The Voice on, but I can hear the quilt getting restless!!

Friday 25 March 2016

Was up really early as I couldn't stop coughing, not a great start. I sat and did puzzles in bed for an hour or so then made a cup of tea and fed the cat! I had been thinking about the latest quilt and how difficult it will be to line it up with patterns on both sides, I understand now the logic of a plain back. I really didn't want to buy any more material and was wondering if I had enough to make borders, and of course, I need to make two borders! I had done 9 pairs of similar blocks and was going to have nine different ones on each side. But I re-arranged them in lighter and darker groups so that I can have different coloured borders that still sort of blend! I have sewn one side together, not started the other one or the borders yet.
So far, so good, I like the arrangement so far. This morning the sun was shining so decided that the sewing could wait for a wet day, I went out in the garden to start re-potting the bonsai trees. This is my oldest one, I have had it at least thirteen years, maybe slightly longer. It is a horse chestnut. This was taken after pruning the roots and putting it in its bigger pot.
I soon realised that I hadn't bought enough bonsai potting compost so talked Darren into taking me to Deans Garden Centre. We had a snack and I got compost and a nice plant for the garden, also some white gravel to put on the newly planted pots. Darren go a nice tall pot for one of his larger bonsai trees. While we were looking round we saw quite a few bees and this butterfly. A bit out of focus but I was facing the sun and it was very bright (good as excuse as any!)
I carried on with the trees when we got home, oh, by the way, the frog is still in residence, thing I will call him Jeremy as I am a Beatrix Potter fan! I still need more compost and maybe another large pot so will twist someone's arm to take me there again tomorrow! Anyway quite a few done and hopefully they will enjoy the root shake up and prune!
Must get this pretty primula into the garden tomorrow, hope fully before the rain otherwise I will be getting very wet from the sound of it!
It is looking like sunset season is back, and it has moved round so that it is easier for me to take a picture from my tv room.

Thursday 24 March 2016

I have had a pretty quiet day, still got the cough and Darren and Tina are both battling with infections as well. I got on with piecing together pieces for the latest quilt for a while. The Tina took me to Ramshill, as area I haven't been to before, to get meat for the weekend, but we also visited a little cafe called The Lupin I think, or was it Tulip, Tina will no doubt put me straight! Anyway, very pleasant little place. There are some great buildings in the area, obviously it was a very affluent part of town in days gone by.
I did a bit more to the quilt and then Tina took me to the craft shop as it was raining by then. Got some more wadding and had a nice cup of tea plus cake! Walked into town afterwards before heading home. The ankle is holding up pretty well today. which is a good. Back home to more sewing. I have now made up six of the blocks, but as I am having patterns on the front and back I have twelve more blocks to complete

Wednesday 23 March 2016

Went for my blood pressure check this morning, all good and in normal ratio, so they will check it again in six months.Took a short walk to the park before coming home. Watched these two blackbirds for a while, think they were nesting now Spring is in the air.
This was an oops photo, someone wasn't concentrating!
A lovely bright flower bed, the day was bright early on  but soon clouded over.
Back home I defrosted the freezer as Tina has a fish delivery coming tomorrow, and it was quite iced up near the top. there was some blackberries in there, goodness knows how long, so I made a crumble and they smelt good. Darren and I drank the juice and we are still here! We cleared the garden clippings from the back garden as it is garden rubbish bin this week. My willow tree is looking good.
The bonsai trees have survived the winter, I will need to prune the roots this year, always makes me a bit nervous but they usually survive and benefit from it.
There is a seed tray in the back garden that is full of water and seems to have become a big frogs private little home!
Here he is having a breath of fresh air!
Tina, use these for fb if you want to! I painted up some mixing bowls and planted them for the bazaar, they didn't all sell but are flowering now, and the painting on the outside is still there too!
I have been cutting out squares for a new quilt this afternoon. I am going to try and use material I already have and plan to have back and front patterned. I should only need to actually buy more wadding for this one. That is the plan anyway!

Colonel is on my lap at the moment, very uncomfortable, for me anyway! When I get up he will settle on my computer chair next to the radiator, one of his favourite spots!
