Friday 30 September 2016

This morning, after putting the cats out early as they were being very irritating, I could have my tea in bed in peace when the alarm went off. I wrote a letter and got a package wrapped to get posted and Darren dropped me near the post office. We arranged to meet at Sainsbury's for a snack after he had done a couple of errands.I was talking to Georgia in Debenhams and was saying that I thought I would get a walking stick. She said try the mobility centre just around the corner. I did go there and had a chat with a very lovely lady who has been having fairly similar problems to me but for a different reason. They had one cane left, but quite a nice pattern so I bought it, worth a try. She also told me about a scheme they run for using their mobility scooters, so will give that some thought.
I did use the cane walking up to Sainsbury's, takes getting used to, I started with using in on the left side, which is the bad ankle. But when I tried it on the right side I think it helped more as it eased the pain in my right knee. Will go out with it again tomorrow. Now, a tale of two begonias. Oh dear,
And happy days!!
I have just pottered this afternoon, but felt like a bit of crafting. I had a little decoupatch  glue left, had bought some of the papers in a sale a while back, and a couple of little boxes to cover last week.
Almost finished off the glue but they are now covered.
This evening it was a muted sky, it is chilly now but has been a lovely day.

Bit of a strange day, well not so much strange as a struggle really, as the ankle decided to be extra painful! The plumber came early to replace the taps on Darren and Tina's bath, good job I have a shower on this floor as it has proved very useful.  Tina was heading off at about 9.30 am but I was out in the front garden before she set off. I love the little rake that I got at the boot sale raked lots of moss out of the lawn.
The pile near the rake is the moss and the other pile the trimmings. The lawn has never turned out well, not even with the hand mower or the electric one. I just used shears today and after the raking it is probably the best finish I have managed.
I decided to catch the bus to town and then another one along to Deans garden centre. It is a bit of a step from the bus stop, or maybe it just seemed that way because my ankle was painful. I wouldn't mind having this house, up in the trees, even though it is near a main road I expect it is well insulated.
This pretty flower was near the entrance of the garden centre.
There was a shower that freshened up the plants.
I got some pots so that I could re-pot my begonias and some stakes to support them, also some indoor plant compost. I made my way back to the bus stop, I took a picture of these clouds while I waited.

This afternoon I did some baking, a crumble and a cake, so Darren will be happy.
That was the cake recipe I got stuck under the grill on the first attempt! I had to try a peace and it is a very tasty cake! I checked the trees outside and the bonsais are showing signs of Autumn.
The begonias were on sale as bulbs a few months ago, and they have truly outgrown the pots they came with. So thought as I now had the pots I would re-pot them.
Had a disaster with one of them, got it into the new pot, removed the support, and the plant just snapped off! Won't repeat my bad language, have potted it anyway but don't imagine the stem will suddenly start to develop roots! The other one I put the new stake in before I removed the old one.
I will report on their progress, or lack of it.

I am still enjoying having the Teasmade, very civilised start to the days! I thought I should get to the pool today and Tina dropped me off about 8.45 am. I had arranged to meet Darren in the park and have a sandwich there afterwards. I didn't even take shoes with me today, a bit of a pity that the pavements near the pool aren't smooth, they are that sort of gravel in tar variety. But there were some grass verges I could use some of the way. I asked if I would be allowed on the exercise bike in the gym if I was barefoot and they said that would be fine. I came down by the mini golf place again and the trees are just beginning to turn.
It is very windy, so I hope that the leaves don't all end up falling before they have a chance to change. As I came through the park I realised that the cafe was closed, so called Darren and we met at the deli down the road and had a sandwich there. But I took a couple of pictures of a very serene and quiet park before meeting him.

As Darren and I headed home the sky, or more exactly the clouds were just fabulous.
I have continued making cards this afternoon and have been listening to 'Morality for Beautiful Girls' on audio cd. One of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series.I have now completed over fifty cards so will now sort some other craft out to keep me occupied.

Tuesday 27 September 2016

This morning I needed some shopping so caught the bus into town then walked up to Sainsbury's. I looked into Alma Square as I went by, just a hint of the autumn colours.
I also went by this shop and thought it had a great name.

I didn't have breakfast at home so had eggs on toast before I shopped. I got a taxi home, arrived at the same time as Tina was leaving to go to a lunch meeting. I decided to look on line and see if I could find some different decoupage sheets to print at home. Decided on these three.
Have spent quite a while making cards again, will just show the three made from these sheets as they have turned out quite well.
Will be watching Holby later. The sky had a nice glow this evening.

Monday 26 September 2016

I love my Teasmade, had to cups of tea in bed whilst doing a puzzle. I will be remembering to fill it up and set it from now on. Tina dropped me off in town near the post office, I had some things to get and was sure I had seen magnetic tape in The Works. But none  there and they said they hadn't stocked it. I went down to the other pound shop and Wilkinson's and couldn't find any. Then I went back to the pound shop near the Brunswick Centre, the first shop I had visited today, went to their craft area and got magnetic tape! When I was out with Tina on Friday I got some small wooden crosses to decopatch and then make into fridge magnets for the church bazaar. In town today one of the living statues was back. I know I have photographed some before but what was interesting today was that I had seen a man getting his face covered and getting ready and was surprised when the 'statue' was this attractive lady.
I forgot to mention yesterday that I had bought a small copper picture, it is of Scarborough bay, the south one, and it is lovely.
Had a bit of trouble getting a half decent picture because I left it until this evening and the shiny surface was making reflections and picking up the lights! I have spent hours today since being home cutting and sticking. Now had over forty cards made so won't be making mess for too much longer.
I did watch several episodes of 'House' while I was crafting, buying the whole first series for a couple of pound was a real bargain.

Sunday 25 September 2016

Yesterday evening I set up the lovely new Teasmade and doesn't it look swish!
Had fun and games with the cats last night, Blue can still get her paws under the door to try and attract Charlie. They have been out quite a lot today so I hope they will sleep better tonight! But on the bright side the Teasmade worked and I had a great cup of tea in bed! It was a bit drizzly this morning but Darren and I decided to still go to the boot sale.  It wasn't so busy today and I managed to get round all of it, barefoot of course! The grass was wet but it wasn't muddy. I got some extendable tools which will be great for using in the front garden, they will be able to stay in the porch.
I also got some baking tins that fit together to make a roaster which is quite novel. This afternoon, before getting dinner, I have been doing more fiddly cutting and sticking. You really wouldn't believe how long this batch have taken. Will start making them into cards this evening.
Looks like it is trying to rain again, but the wind seems to have dropped a bit, thankfully.

Saturday 24 September 2016

This morning it was quite bright but the wind has been pretty awful today. After the shoe less spell yesterday I decided to try and give it a go and walk down to the front barefoot. I made a flask and also put a pair of shoes in my rucksack just in case! Strangely, although the pavements are a bit rough in parts and stony, the pain in my ankle was not quite as bad and I have always liked being barefoot, so will see how it goes. The castle end of the beach as I arrived.
I haven't taken a picture of the beach huts for a while.
Looking along the beach, I did paddle and I didn't have to take my shoes off!
A picture of seaweed, some different colours in this bunch.
Took this shot while I was siting having the first drink from my flask.

I walked back through the park and had my second drink there.
I got back home okay and didn't resort to the shoes. I have done a bit of cutting and sticking for cards this afternoon. Went down to get dinner and there was a ring at the door. A parcel, a present from Darren and Tina for me. A brand new, modern Teasmade. I am a very happy bunny. It is even easy to to set as I only have a battery clock usually. I will report on my first cup of tea made for me while I am in bed tomorrow! Have just finished watching Strictly. Very high standard this year, I think it will be a great series.

Friday 23 September 2016

The plumber came quite early to see what was needed to sort the taps out in the bathroom, My shower has been getting extra use for a few days now. Tina was off today and she mentioned Spurn Point to me, she hadn't been there in a while and I have never been, so although it was quite a way we set off, calling at the shopping outlet at Hornsea on our way. Went in the wrong direction once which was handy as I got to take this row of interesting shops when we had turned round!
We did a bit of shopping at the outlet place and then had coffee in a lovely little place which had these great cupboards. If I ever have a big enough place I have a friend who can make me one!!
Then off to Withernsea  where we had fish and chips for lunch. This sign was interesting.

Tina thinks that these structures were the end of a pier once, they are quite impressive.
The view out was my first sea based wind farm of the day.
This tractor was hauling this boat in, which was interesting.
Then we set off to Spurn Point.
I had been having real trouble with my ankle for most of the day, started with shoes and support. Took the support off at the shopping outlet, and at Spurn, didn't do much walking and took the shoes and socks off. They then stayed off for the rest of the day! The views were nice, quite desolate.

I found somewhere to perch while Tina walked down to the water's edge. Great wind farm here!
We stopped a mile or so along the road on the way back and sat on a bench. Could see the lighthouse from there.

We passed Saltend where Darren works, got in touch with him and met in Hull to eat together. Then Darren went off in his van and Tina and I did shopping for food at the weekend in Hull before coming home. And no, I didn't put the shoes back on, went to the restaurant and shop bare foot! A good day and I was home in time for Strictly too, which was good.
