Sunday 31 July 2016

Went to the boot sale with Darren, he is away next weekend and the weather was good so off we went. After out usual sausage sandwich and cup of tea I wander around a couple of rows with him before heading back to the car. I got a great little notebook with woven cover and pressed paper, and on a charity stall too. It was £1 and will make a nice little pocket sketch book.

I got a couple of cds as well and played one while I was in the car, doing a puzzle, while Darren went round the rest of the very large amount of cars today. He came back with two funny little plastic money box pigs for me, quite cute, and I am in need of more ornaments too!!
We had a cup of tea at Sainsbury's on the way back and got a bit of shopping in. I planted some pretty foliage plants in the tubs earlier in the year, and they have just begun to really blossom and are even flowering. A friend had some of this plant years ago, and I did have some in Peterborough. I am glad it is in the tubs so that it can come with us when we move on.
I put some washing out and watered the bonsai trees and took another picture of the fairy garden because it is still in tact and looking good.
Have done some more knitting, but still have pieces to knit before I start sewing up and stuffing, and that is going to be pretty fiddly too! I have now caught up with Red Rock so will try and watch it regularly and use catch up quickly if I miss an episode. Will watch The Doctor Blake mystery on the drama channel later

Saturday 30 July 2016

Not a lot to report today, the ankle has been sore so decided a rest day was in order. It hasn't helped a lot but I have been watching episode after episode of Red Rock, the Irish daytime drama. I have also been knitting on and off for most of the day but not got too far with that either! The second wing is finished and one arm. So another arm, the legs and the claws to knit and them a complex assembly!
I have taken a few photos of 'Blue' today, mostly blurred as she was running around a lot of the the time. She was on the stairs on the second attempts, so here are a couple of shots to give you the idea.

Back to more viewing, hopefully I will have a bit more to write tomorrow.

Friday 29 July 2016

Yesterday evening, after the wedding rehearsal, we set off for Kings Lynn, we arrived at The Grange hotel after 10 pm. Jane, the owner met us, offered us fresh milk and carried it upstairs for us, and showed us the room. The room was on the top floor, so rather a lot of stairs. It was a family room, a nice building.
I decided to sleep in this bed in the alcove near the loo!
Comfy beds, plenty of tea and coffee and biscuits and chocolate, we both slept well. We took everything down with us when we went to breakfast to save walking up the top again. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice and good service. The staircase is fabulous.
The building is very impressive, out bedroom was the one up in the eaves on the right hand side.
My foot was very sore today but we managed to see most of the shops and got some bargains, We also had a lovely lunch at Cafe Roasta before we made our way to see Tina's brother and collect the kitten. A couple of shots from Kings Lynn.

We had a couple of hours there and then Tina had the long drive home. Going down took about three and a half hours, coming home four and a half, so Tina had to bring the cat in and head straight off for a meeting. Will get a picture of 'Blue' tomorrow.

Thursday 28 July 2016

I have had a stay in and not do more than I have to day, as my ankle was quite sore when I got up today. My own fault as I decided to take the walk to see Sandy and then into town yesterday when I had done a bit more over the last couple of days. Pushing my luck a bit there, should have quit while I was ahead! I have spent many hours today knitting the wings of the dragon, well, one wing completed and the other started anyway! I think only one dragon will get made and will be received by someone very special, unless someone offers me a small fortune to purchase it!! Here are the pieces so far...
I am hopeful that it will indeed actually look like a dragon when it is stuffed and assembled. Tina often buys me some flowers, which is lovely, she got me some on Monday and they have been on the landing until today.A very bright and sunny bunch they are.
The good news of the day is that the fairy garden has survived the first night without a slug and snail attack, I have just been down to water the bonsai trees and the little garden is still full of plants, so first round to me! There is a rose at the side of the garden which most of the year looks like a dead stalk, but not it really is a rose between the thorns and weeds for a while, very bold coloured flowers.
Off to the church with Tina to sit in at the wedding rehearsal, and then we have the long drive down to Kings Lynn. Just an over night stay and collecting the kitten tomorrow.

Wednesday 27 July 2016

We had a simple breakfast here this morning and then we went to The Mere, where I sat on a bench and did a puzzle and Mike took a couple of turns round the lake. It was dull and quite grey when we arrived, the sun broke out for a while and what a difference it made from where I was sitting!

We were there before ten, and it was quiet and very peaceful.
The sprinkler was turned on in the lake so thought this made a good picture.

We had a drink and sausage sandwich before we left, I asked to use their loo, he told me there was no light and I said that was okay (no window in there), he didn't tell me there was no loo roll and you couldn't lock the door from the inside!! But needs must as they say, no one barged in...We went to Dean's and just had a drink, as a scone was not a good idea after the sandwich. I got an indoor plant for sandy who is recovering from her replacement knee operation and some plants, copper tape and grit sand so that I could get on with the fairy garden. It was getting on for 1 pm when we got back, so Mike got his stuff together and set off for home. I walked up to Sandy's, had a cup of tea with her and a natter and then took a slow walk into town. Bought a few bits and then caught the bus home. Then out into the garden to plant up the garden and apply the copper tape, now we will see how many plants are left tomorrow, maybe all of them and the slugs and snails won't find a way it! The foot has held up pretty well, but am staying off it now for the rest of the evening.

Tuesday 26 July 2016

We had breakfast with Tina today and then Mike and I set off for The Ryedale Folk Museum, a beautiful drive across the Yorkshire Moors. Hutton le Hole, the village where the museum is, has signs as you approach that there are sheep on the road. Very unusual and talking to a local it brings a lot of visitors to the area. Sadly, one had been hit as we approached the village and was dead on the verge. Another one ambled across in front of us, but there are signs at both ends of the village warning of their freedom to roam where they want to.
I have only been to the museum once before and really liked it then. We had a cup of tea and then started our walk around. The first things you come to are a couple of shops, they are fabulous, inside and out.

There are loads of different workshops from coopers, and blacksmiths, tinsmiths saddle makers and many more. The funeral director display had this great funeral carriage.
In one of the cottages there was this really old sampler, in really good condition considering it's age.
Mike had a spell of not feeling to well when we were there, and at one point I was sitting in a large hall and was befriended bu a cute grey cat. He was all over me, and needling my legs, all was well until he decided to bit me, not badly and didn't break the skin, was just getting excited by the attention. Took one picture of him on my lap, well, tried to, then another when he followed me into another room!

Loved this cottage, a perfect retirement place!
With this fabulous outhouse in it's grounds.
A bit further up there is a really gorgeous model village, maintained by volunteers.
Further into the grounds was a really great example of a bronze age round house.
Walking back down a different path we saw this gypsy caravan, the roof inside was gorgeous.

I took many more photos as you can imagine, maybe will post a few more another day when I haven't taken much else. In the ladies before I left there was this great poster on one of the walls.
There was an exhibition room just as you leave with all these wedding dresses from over the years.
We stopped for lunch at The Cedarbarn farm shop and cafe. Very popular and very good. Then we called in at Snainton wood supplies as we were passing right by it. I wore the new support again, and although we wandered quite a bit it was at a very steady pace and the ankle does not seem to be worse or aggravated.

Monday 25 July 2016

Mike set off really early and had a walk on the front and through the park before coming here at just after 8.30 am.  He caught the bus into town with me after breakfast, he got a return ticket, pretty reasonable price. He had a couple of cafes on his 'things to do in Scarborough' list, so we had a drink at Emma's on Huntriss Row. then we wanted to the cliff lift and went down to the south bay for a look. Nice weather and busy. I sat on a bench while Mike had a bit of a wander. There was a dredger working out in the bay, and holiday makers a plenty.
This baby seagull was happily sitting on the beach between two lots of holiday makers, without a care in the world it seems, loved the footprint pattern around him/her.
We came back up on the lift and then went and had lunch at Greensmith and Thackray, another cafe on the list! Had a really nice 'To share' platter and cups of tea in great teapots with loose leaf tea inside.
I bought a cd from a street artiste country singer, we listened to it a bit later and it is very good. We caught the bus home and came indoors for a little while before going off to the park for the Naval Warfare battle. An organist was entertaining the crown before it kicked off which was great, he played lots of popular film songs. Then the ships all came by, this was a warship with an enemy warship in the rear.
One of our ships was hit and out of the action!
The the air attacks began.
When the battle was won, by us of course, the ships and their operators came by to wave at the crowds and get their just applauding!

It didn't take long for them to get the park running normally and the swan boat was out on the lake!
I meant to say that when we got to town I got a new ankle support, it is tighter and I think it helped but am not totally convinced. Will see how it goes. We had fish and chips for tea, a must for visitors to Scarborough, and we may watch a film in a bit.

Sunday 24 July 2016

A sky picture from a couple of nights ago, nicely pink for a change.
Apart from going to the boot sale with Darren I have had a day in again. I have knitted three sections of the dragon, but it is quite complex and a lot of sections. Darren and I had our usual sausage sandwich and cuppa. I had a very short wander and then headed back to the car. On my was back Darren came up behind me and had got a cd for 10p, for me, and he put it on in the car for me which was really nice, good cd too. When he got back later he had got me a spider puzzle.
On my short wander I picked up a book about Helen Keller which should be a really interesting read. It is beyond me how much she achieved and she must have had the most amazing teacher! Mike is coming up for a couple of days tomorrow, not sure what we will manage to do, as I have two speeds, slow and stop, and stop is less painful!! But I am sure we will fill the time, we are off to see the Naval Warfare in the park in the afternoon tomorrow.

Saturday 23 July 2016

Yesterday evening I painted the little pebble toadstools I made a while ago, in readiness for them to go in the fairy garden.
This morning I went out and about with Tina for a bit to take pictures for the parish profile that she is getting ready. We went to the church.
There is a small statue of Mary above the main door and Tina thought it would be nice to have a close up of her. Luckily I took the camera with a longer zoom.
Then we went to Holy Apostles to get a good shot of the lovely chapel there.
I also took some of the local streets and areas the parish covers. We drove back round by the sea and there were yachts far out, again, lucky I had the camera with the longer zoom.

When we were on Newland Avenue on Thursday we saw some knitted birds in the window of a wool shop, but they has sold out of the pattern book. There were also dragons knitted with the tinsel yarn that I have made hedgehogs and owls with in the past. Tina was really taken with them. Yesterday we were looking for bird patterns and the dragons came up as well, Tina ordered both for me. She obviously thinks I need to fill my time a bit more productively!!
The dragons are part tinsel yarn and part double knitting, I have started one, although not in the colours on the sheet, I did have some of that yarn left. I will need to get bendy straws to fix in the wings. If he/she gets finished I will post a picture. There are all sorts in the bird book, seagulls and Canada geese may be on my 'to do' list!
