And wanted to catch the new plant in the morning sum, and make sure it hadn’t died!
Just after 11.30 am we set off on our adventure. Mappleton first as we could have lunch in the nice Post Office cafe there afterwards.
All Saints church.
A look at the see after lunch before we set off for St. Bartholomew Aldbrough.
Then off to St. Albans, Withernwick. This one was very interesting as they had co,,extend their archives from Beverley and had them on display. Found entries for the year I was born and much earlier.
Then to All Saints, Rise.
We met a great lady at St Augustine’s Skirlaugh. Her name was Joyce, down on her hands and knees sweeping the floor when we arrived, she has been verger and cleaner fro forty years.
I really liked the simple modern window there too.
That view outside the church wasn’t bad either! Then we went to Long Riston, not on the sheet but it was open which was good.
Sarah trying to doge the camera on the way out!
Next stop, St Michael, Catwick. Lots of carving in this church.
Will continue on a second post as the app is rebelling!
The sunflower looks great, even with the still wrinkled petals. Very bright and colourful. Talking of which, the new plant is a lovely red. Think that one was definitely a bargain.
ReplyDeleteWow jan, some really great pics of the churches inside and out. What a great way to spend a few hours looking around several churches. You picked a great day for it too. The lovely blue skies make great backdrops, and the light streaming the the stained glass is smashing.
Lovely pic of the verger too. Forty years sweeping the floor on her hands and knees, that dedication!
I love the sunflower and plant, worth the effort put into the garden.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day, unusual and interesting and varied. Such a good idea to open them all up on a specific day , quite a few people were doing the rounds.
