Not for the squeamish today!

This morning I made two batches of zucchini bread, putting dried cranberries in the second batch. Have frozen one of each so that Tina can take them away on the charity trip at the weekend.
I went out and tidied up the front flower bed ready to get the ornamental cabbages in. I took a walk to the shops before getting dinner and bought some primulas to go in the garden too.
When I was sorting dinner Tina called me as the sparrow hawk had caught a pigeon and was about to pluck in the centre of the lawn! She was in the garden for over two hours, we think she was a young hawk, maybe her first kill. The crows were circling but she held her ground. The cats wanted to go out but we didn’t want her disturbed. I will post some earlier pictures but not the later ones. It was fascinating. We had found feathers before so though the hawks were about. So, now is the time to leave the blog if you don’t want to see them!

The electric went off after tea, but the bird flew off as the electric came back on so I did get the plants put in. The sky was pink again by the time I finished.

  1. The zucchini bread does look nice again and I bet the one with cranberries in it will be good. I’d love to make some, but I’d probably have to eat it all in one go 😊
The pics of the sparrow hawk are great. I know some people find it a bit gruesome, but it’s just the way of things. Never seen one actually plucking and eating it’s prey, but have often seen the aftermath of feathers everywhere. You certainly do get a good variety of subjects for your photos. They’re never boring. Lovely sky in the last pic too.

  2. It certainly was a different day, not run of the mill that’s for sure!
I imagine the sparrow hawk may be a regular visitor now!
Pleased I got the plants in as I had planned to, later than I intended but good.
