'rustic' wall picture and more gardening

Last night I started cutting the papers I had bought last week to get started on the scrapbook that I intend to make about my birthday trip the the Humber Bridge country park.

This morning I walked up to Freeport to go to the craft session, did walk back as well today but had some lunch up there before heading back. The road leading to the cemetery looked very much the country lane, very peaceful too.
The craft session today was making a wall hanging from the blocks of corrugated cardboard from the centre of the material batches. Stripping back the surface to see the lines and then adding texture. Not usually my sort of thing but I really enjoyed it and am actually pleased with the result and will put it up somewhere. She gave us all a couple more centres so that we can play with them at home. She had done most of the stripping for up today to save time.
After a bit of a rest when I had walked back I went out with the intention of clearing the border near the trees which was like a very overgrown verge! Plenty of sticky week and nettles in there too, so went to get a long sleeved top on.

There was so much stuff to clear, just pulling and clearing today, didn't actually dig any roots out. This was the first pile of debris, had a couple more loads like that before I was finished for the day.
During a break to make a drink I took a picture of the tamarix, not flowering all over but it does have one feathery branch. I have another one that hasn't flowered at all this year but it is alive,, so hopefully it will next year.
There is a long way to go with that bed but you can see the wall at the back now!!

Not planning on doing much else today, have met the Fitbit targets!! Charity shop tomorrow.

Grey day, good for chores!

I went for an early walk again, down to the front before following the trail the same as yesterday. It was grey and quite chilly by the sea, I did go on the beach for a while, not a bit May like!

Back on the road just before the Insurance place which I planned to visit there was this most amazing blue bush outside the Catholic church.
I had tried getting holiday insurance on line last night but the price seemed to be bumped up by the time you got to the checkout. Darren had mentioned that there is an insurance broker in \Hornsea, so I decided to give then a try. I was served by a lovely lady called Rebecca and we went through it all very thoroughly and we even mentioned that I have been having blood pressure tests. Quite expensive but I feel that I have good insurance that will be valid.
The rain has seemed in the air today but hasn't actually arrived. I got on with household chores for most of the day, sounds like an exaggeration but it is a bit house if you really decide to do a blitz!
Had dinner with Darren this evening and have checked the garden and no watering required. I have a craft session to go to in the morning.

Walking, polishing and gardening

A grey day today but I set off for a walk down to the front where the mist was in and it was grey with a cool breeze.
Then along the Trans Pennine Trail for a bit over the dyke and down a path to the side of it.

The path led to the Tesco car park, I had tried to find the route to it before but now I know!
We had two very different euphorbia plants in the front garden, one brown and one green.

I have gone through nearly a pack of cleaning wipes trying to clean the banister rail, I sincerely hope the level of grease etc is years worth and not just us! Have applied to coats of beeswax and I know the grain and pattern are more noticeable but doubt it is something that anybody else will notice. But I know it is a little more hygienic now!
I have some tall plants growing in old sinks in the back garden and couldn't for the life of me remember what I had planted, but I think now that they are agapanthus .

Then out into the garden to carry on clearing the bed that had all the snowdrops in.
I did get my chair out and had regular breaks as my legs ache a bit today. Blue sat on me for a bit and then took over on the chair!
Dug out quite a few more snowdrops, so have them drying now.
I got a good bit of the bed prepared, to a fashion anyway, and planted some veg that I have had for weeks if not months and the rest of the gourd plants that I grew from seed.
Fairly good days work I think, may give gardening a miss tomorrow!!

Early walk and walled garden clearing

Went for a fairly early walk, I had posted a letter and saw a sign to a play park so thought I would take a look. Beyond the play park you could see a bit of the mere, a good way off and of course behind barbed wire but may be worth a visit at sunset time. The play park is on a piece of public ground, the sign was quite interesting.

I walk up the hill out of town a bit and took a picture of this great bench that I had noticed when walking back from Atwick last week.
The main entrance to the park has a nice view.
I cut through the park and called in at the shop before coming home.
I thought I would make a start at tidying up the walled garden today, it has become weedy and looked jumbled. Some 'before' pictures.

Tina has started removing the weed retaining layer a while ago, I hadn't intended getting on with it but once I started there was no going back!
That took some shifting! I am hoping you will see that the walled garden looks much better now!

A lovely peony has appeared in the front garden, we do get nice surprises as well as endless work!
That was enough gardening, or anything else for today, didn't even have to water as the sun didn't make an appearance!

Bempton and great cars!

This morning Darren and I went off as usual but to Leberston as he was going to drop me off at Bempton Cliffs before going to archery. We had our sandwich and cuppa as usual but I didn't walk around as much as I have been. I was quite achy today and knew I would be doing more walking at Bempton so I went back to the car and waited for him there. I did buy a bottle opener for 50p and a pasta maker. When Darren got back he noticed this'bug' car behind ours. What a great funky little vehicle!
Darren decided to come with me to Bempton in the end, it was very busy but we walked along one direction. Didn't see many birds close to but it is just a lovely place to visit.

As we were leaving we saw another great car from the days when I could recognise all the different makes! A Triumph Mayflower in fab condition.
I decided against gardening today but have of course watered which takes a while. Maybe get back out there tomorrow.

Bit of gardening then evening concert

Not a lot to say today, I did go and have a quick look at the monthly market but not that many stalls, got a couple of cds for 20p each and then bought some tickets in the town for a tombola raising money for the First Aid Hut.
Spent a bit of time out in the garden but not all hard going. It was a bit tricky clearing the banked bed as I didn't want to get it all over the lawn! But managed and planted a few gourd plants at the top and some bedding plants along in front of the gladioli.
I tidied up the greenhouse and spread the giant snowdrop bulbs out, quite a lot and I expect I will dig up more yet when I get back to that bed!
In Lidl yesterday we bought a great tiered planter for herbs. I planted up the base and put compost in the second layer, one more to go on top yet, quite clever the way you balance them.
I found bulbs in the greenhouse which can still be planted in May so used a couple of pots and put one plant in the middle to make them vaguely interesting while we wait for the flowers to appear!
Sunflowers are shooting up behind those pots. One of the hanging baskets is beginning to look colourful and they all have nasturtium  buds now, I grew them from seed so it is particularly pleasing.
After dinner Tina and I got ready to walk to the URC to see the local young musicians, we were too early so walked down to the front, so a picture of the vicar by the sea!!
The young musicians were great, the youngest one was eight years old. Some of the older teens were truly fantastic. We walked home, after a murky start it has been a nice day today.
