Trail, sea and garden

This morning I set off for a walk and joined the Trans Pennine Trail just after Tesco's and walked back along it to the sea front.

A lot greener that when I wandered along it a few months back! The day was grey and the wind bitter along by the sea, a real change in the weather.

I did start polishing the uprights on the stair case, they needed attention. Still have to finish that job as I went out into the garden after lunch. Tina has mentioned that we could cut back the lawn where it banks up and get some sleepers at some point and make a raised bed along that side of the lawn.
So basically take out a biggish strip along that edge until reaching the curve. I had said we could use the removed turfs to make a path in that top bed. Me and my big mouth! Made a start and then anothe picture when well on the way. I have never chopped out turf before, and at the edge it was full of cooch grass, and I am not in a hurry to ever do it again.

Still had more to go then that in looks as the bit still waiting is in the distance! Anyway, finished it off, had enough for a bit of a path in the bottom bed and I tidied the edges.

When I had cleared away and went in to get my tea, Charlie, who usually sits outside the gate to the walled garden to watch the world decided that the new 'path' was much more comfortable!
I was in the garden for over three hours but that included a couple of drink breaks and the clearing the tools away. I watered the 'paths' and the bonsai trees and am not having a totally lazy evening.
Should add that I called in at the doctors on my way back this morning and checked my blood pressure which was a bit better today. My doctors appointment tomorrow has been cancelled but I am seeing the pharmacist on Friday to get it checked.

  1. That does look a nice walk. Much better scenery than on the way to VH! Like the little steam/dyke. It reminded me of when I we used to go looking for newts and sticklebacks when I was a kid. Really would be nice to be back in those days again.
I have to say you’ve made a great job of cutting and relaying the turf. I know what hard work that can be as I’ve done it myself. You’re totally mad and will completely wear yourself out! Looks like the cat appreciates it though :-)
Good job you didn’t check your blood pressure this afternoon! I think you deserve a bank holiday weekend doing nothing. Just sit in the garden and appreciate it rather than toiling. Assuming the weather stays fine that is.

  2. That is only a small section of the trail but it is very pretty.
It was actually the cutest thing seeing Charlie sitting on it, he spends a lot of time quite near there surveying his territory, quite made my day!
Won't do any heavy work before I go to get the blood pressure checked on Friday!!
