Le Tour arrives

This morning, before I went to the shops I walked along to the church as Tina said it had be well decorated as had the market cross. People were out making last minute additions and the whole town was being cleaned and spruced up for the hoped for visitors.

Later on there were chairs outside the church porch and a group of ladies were serving drinks and cream scones. Quite a good view of the road from there too. The market cross and the bench in front of it had been decorated, I did check with the man that it was okay to take the photo!

A tandem for a change outside one shop.
Back home and the post arrived and in it were the new door fittings for the greenhouse. I spent a long time trying to work out what to do with them and lifted the door out to fit them. Difficult finding somewhere to balance it while I did, it was surprisingly heavy as well. I tried two or three times lifting it in and out and eventually it was on and jammed solid, so now permanently open! Heard a snapping noise as well and I don't appear to have broken any glass so think one of the new fittings may have cracked. Have ordered yet more and will try and find a greenhouse expert to sort it out for me!
Then went to get ready for the 'caravan', in other words the procession of vehicles passing through ahead of the race. It did stop along the road and lots of people were handing out freebies.

Tina and I with out flags!

This drummer was great, making enough sound to rise above the rest of the noise.

A selfie of the silly hat.
It was loud and busy and so well supported.

I came home and had a bit of lunch and then headed off to try and find a good place to see the race go through, knowing that it could prove to be a challenge. Passed another good and quite different window display on the way.
Got my position and had to wait for a while, but soon we had the sign that they were getting close.

Managed to catch the leading group.
And a few of the main race behind.

Then the entourage!

One of the ladies I know from the church was sitting outside her bungalow as I made my way back and invited me in for coffee which was nice, and then I went straight to the hairdresser. While I  was waiting the dog got on my lap, made a change from a cat!
I was going to have colour through a cap but the guy started putting it straight on my hair, so full head colour it was then! The lady cut it after and I have to admit that she does a good cut and the colour is okay too.
Tina was in and shattered when I got home, it had been a very busy day for her, I made the dumplings for the casserole and Tina said she would treat me to fish and chips. We walked along, enjoyed out meal and then took a walk back through the park, all good for my steps total! All in all a really good day, it is a great little town.

  1. What a lovely day, and some really nice photography weather for it too. Everywhere looks so colourful, including the church. I have to say I do like to see bunting on churches and vicarage. It always reminds me of the proper old fashioned church fetes I used to go to when I was really young. Yes, a very long time ago! And unless I come up there when the Rev is having one, I doubt I’ll see another.
It looks like it was a good turnout for the start of the race. They really do embrace it up there. I’m sure they wouldn’t do it half as good down this way. It was great that you actually found a spot to get some good pics of the lead cyclists too. I thought you might struggle as there were going to be so many people going.
The hair looks nice by the way.
All in all a good day, apart from the greenhouse door, which managed to creep into the photos twice. It’s mocking you :-)

  2. I will have to edit the second one out!
It really was a great atmosphere, all the shops and eateries joined in the fun, I just hope that they all managed to get lots of business from the visitors.
I will go and do some editing now!
