The wind has had the seeds from the sycamore tree falling like rain in the walled garden and on the lawn.
I took that photo quite early, it got much thicker. Tina and I enjoyed lunch watching a variety of birds enjoying the unexpected windfall.
I was feeling a bit achy this morning so watched another episode of Dr Blake on catch up, Blue got on my lap for a while, she has done that a few times recently.
This afternoon I did get out into the garden and started clearing some more ready to be tilled.
Not going to attempt clearing the whole bed but we decided to take the bed about another metre back.
I dug up a larva, maybe a caterpillar, I am not sure. After filming it for a while I moved it away from me but think the robin had it! I did see a few more as I turned the bed over, I have never seen anything like it before.
I stopped for a tea break, had made a good start.
Took a picture of the laburnum tree while I had my drink as it is quite spectacular at the moment.
There are some Californian poppies hidden in that area, I really like then and almost bought some when we were at Skirlington on Sunday.
Not only those hatching larva but a fabulous beetle wandered by!
It wasn't too bad today although I did work for over two hours, plenty of long roots and thicker tree roots.
Can see where I have been, may try and get out for a bit again tomorrow afternoon.
Tina showed me a video this morning of patterns made by using ink and string, had to have a go!
Can show them at the craft outlet tomorrow.
The seashore do look a bit different today than it did in the other pics. I’m also very pleased to say you’ve got a wonky horizon in the first pic....yayyy....I don’t feel so bad about getting mine skewwhiff now :-)
ReplyDeleteThe bit of the garden you’ve cleared looks more than a couple of hours work. At least it was broken up by finding weird creatures! The larva does look a bit strange. Sort of half legged and half not. I’ve probably seen them like that before but just not noticed. It’s surprising how much we take for granted as we wander around. Should definitely spend more time studying things. At least the beetle looked normal.
The string patterns are fantastic. Being bright red helps too. They remind me of a flower, but I’m not sure which. You really need to find a use for those.
Think they look a bit like lilies.
ReplyDeleteThe larva were underground I dragged the poor things into the daylight. They were wriggling about trying to escape the casing! Thought I had filmed one for a bit but apparently not, have formatted the card now so if it was there it is too late!
You may find you did film it but Picasa didnt download it off the card. I’ve had the same thing happen with other software and before you realise you format it and it’s too late :-( The only way to make sure you download them is to do it manually.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely lilies.
It is too late now, but never mind.
ReplyDeleteI will be making some more string patterns.
