Sunset at the mere

This morning I went with Tina into Hull as she has had a problem with her eyes since Friday and had an emergency appointment at the Eye hospital. We went in by taxi as she was having the drops that dilate your pupils for hours so she wouldn't be able to drive home. We were there for a couple of hours but she has been told that all is well for now, which is really good. We walked back into the city and had some lunch before catching the bus back to Hornsea.
As I walked down the drive I noticed this seagull resting on our very impressive chimney pot!
I did a bit of weeding this afternoon before watering the front garden. Quite a pile of weeds etc and I had already put a fair bit in the garden bin which is now full again!
I uncovered this pretty plant up against the wall, it was obscured from sight before I weeded.
I came in and knitted a bit more of the baby jumper before going out to do a bit of hoeing and planting in the back garden and then do the rest of the watering. The one prepared bed is looking quite full now and some of the plants provide ground cover so hopefully it will look established before too long.
The apple tree has plenty of blossom but the trees have had no attention so I have no idea if the apples will be okay or full of maggots!
My little holly 'twig' has definitely got tiny flowers, I wonder if it will produce time berries as well?
I checked sunset times and decided it was time to walk up the the footpath overlooking the mere again. To start with the sun was still up and bright so some funky effects without trying!

Not a lot of reflections as the sun disappeared.

There were loads of midges, and somewhat by accident they appear on this one!
A couple looking back as I walked home.

I changed to low light for the sheep, sadly I focused on the hedge but still like the picture!
Will do a bit more knitting before I retire, I am enjoying 'Polly's War' which is the book I am listening to.

  1. Glad to hear Tina is ok. Definitely not nice having problems with your eyes. It was nice you were around and able to go with her.
Looks like you’ve had a busy but productive time in the garden again. The finished bed does look nice, so it was worth all the effort that’s gone into it all.
Your trip out to see the sunset was definitely worth while. You have some great pics there, and I particularly like the ones with the glare effect in them. I can see you’ll be a regular dusk photographer.
Like the last pic too. The sheep looks like it should have a speech bubble. Not sure what it would be saying though :-)

  2. I will allow a bit more time to get there next time and then hang around for a bit longer once the sun has gone down.
I think that bed will be okay, it is very dry so I put chicken manure pellets on before I hoes to try and help the condition. I use the hose to water that bed so that it gets a good soaking.
The sheep just stood there and stared at me!
