I got the bus into Hull, one of the single deckers and that was fine, it was a lovely morning. As I got off the bus the handle of my new bag broke, luckily I didn’t throw the contents, presents for Isobel, over the causeway! I hadn’t collected my tickets in advance this time, so went to the machine and all was well. It was then that I was realised that I had forgotten to bring my rail card! I had time to go and see a lady at the ticket office, firstly she said I would have to buy another railcard or pay the days full fare which was about sixty or seventy pound! She said that they could not collect the difference on the train as they would no longer be advance tickets! She fiddled about and then said that she thought she could do it for me and printed excess tickets, I just had to make up the difference which was an extra thirteen pounds. Phew, not that I was the least bit stressed by then. Went to the loos and of course I picked the cubicle with no toilet paper! On top of that I was in quite a lot of pain today, so not a good start! The train was on time, took a couple of pictures from the first one. We stopped at a station near the bridge and then the sky and wind turbines were looking good.
At Doncaster station I walked up some steps to a different platform, more for the views as I had a bit of time, so a couple of slightly arty pics.
I arrived at Peterborough and Anya and Isobel were there to meet me. We drove over to Ferry Meadows and went to the Lake side cafe. We had a nice lunch and chatted.
We had time for a bit of a walk in Ferry Meadows, which was lovely, and such good weather.
Loved the black swan boat.
We had a lovely couple of hours together, not long, but so glad that I made the trip. Anya dropped me back at the station in time for my first train home. Took one picture from the train.
Another lovely sky.
I was feeling a little sad and still having a bit of pain, so the maniac bus driver on the final part of my journey didn’t help a lot. Was home a bit before seven feeling a bit weary!
Lovely skies to start off your day, but it didn’t take long for it to go a bit downhill. I suppose a £13 ticket difference wasn’t too bad all things considered, but not good for the stress levels. At least the rest of the trip want too bad and you were met at the station which makes things easier. Not a bad day for a visit to Ferry Meadows either. Nice place, although I’ve not been for a few years.
ReplyDeleteA long trip for a couple of hours visiting, but good to get to see the birthday girl.
Sounds like you should be having a nice quiet day tomorrow taking it easy, but I know you won’t be! Hopefully a good nights sleep will be in store tonight and you’ll be raring to start a new day!
It was lovely to see Anya and Isobel and Ferry Meadows again for that matter. Quite a few changes there. Not a journey I plan to do too often on a day though!
ReplyDeleteNo specific plans for tomorrow so will see how I feel in the morning.
