Carry on gardening

Today I have been working in the back garden again. Getting jobs done that have been overlooked, but taking my time and enjoying getting it looking really today. When I laid the turf path at the top of the bank which I tidied up yesterday I also laid one at the back of the main flower bed in front of the bushes at the back wall. I think it may have been strimmed one time last year, but has remained mostly neglected because there is so much else to be concentrating on!
Worked for about an hour and it really looks a lot better now!
Then I decided the more recent path made with the turfs from the area the paving slabs went. I have been watering them and they have settled well.
Didn’t work quite so long and another area looking a lot better.
I sat in the shade for a while and the cats both came to see me and were fighting over the spare chair! Then Blue went to have a drink from a bird bath and Pandora bagged the chair. I thought Blue was chasing a feather, but then thought it was moving too much. Went over to her and for a minute I thought I was imagining things but then spotted the tiny tail between her from paws!  I shooed her off and the little mouse had been scratched I think but was running around, I managed to steer it towards the flower bed and cover keeping both cats at bay! Neither of them went in that direction so hopefully it was able to rest and recover. I went in for lunch and then after that decided to start tidying the bed under the bird feeders. Very trodden down and bedded in weed so slightly heavier going.
I didn’t finish it, did dig out the giant snowdrops and will plant them somewhere else in the autumn. It is looking better, but there is a bit of a jungle behind the tree!
Both the cats have been in the greenhouse today, Pandora did get locked in for a while as she went in while I was decanting the suet pellets. She went behind the shelving and I forgot she was there. When I let her out Blue decided to go in and settled on some bulbs!
I helped Tina get the tent down this evening and that will be enough for today. She got me some more elastic at Countdown this afternoon so I can make some more masks if the weather changes tomorrow.

  1. Glad to hear today’s gardening has been more enjoyable for a change. The grass paths look a lot better when they’re trimmed. I do think they’re a good idea when you have deep banks of soil. Stops you having to trample the soil down when doing anything to the beds, and it puts the lawn off cuts to good use.
Hope the mouse survived its ordeal. Hopefully you caught it quick enough to stop it getting too tormented! Cats are wicked!
The bed under the feeders looks all ready to be trodden down again in the morning when you feed all the wildlife again.
Bet it’s nice and cosy in that greenhouse when the door is open. Not so pleasant with the door shut though. A bit hot. Blue looks really comfy on the bulbs 😊
A productive day for you. Nothing new there though. Not supposed to be so warm tomorrow, so it might well be a mask day. You never get bored 😊

  2. Definitely a more enjoyable day gardening, not pressuring myself but moving round trying to improve on areas that have already had some attention. If it is cloudy tomorrow I will try to get the honeysuckle plant in.
Although Pandora was shot in for a while I think she had curled up for a snooze at the back so she seemed quite relaxed when she came out. I really hope the little mouse made it, tried my best!
