This morning we were up and about early and I went along to the 7 am service at the church. Not many of us there but it was lovely and Tina sung a lot of it which was beautiful. There was a rough sleeper in the porch who didn't stir as people were going in and out.
Darren had an archery session to go to near Scarborough so we thought we would call in at the boot sale we used to go to regularly. Really cold today and we had rain and sleet on the way over. The boot sale wasn't open and we had time to spare before the archery was set up so Darren drove us to the south bay, We had a very nice sandwich in an almost empty Harbour Bar, it is usually heaving later in the day as it serves the most amazing ice cream sundaes!
We went and spent a little while in an arcade and then crossed over to get back to the car. Took some bay pictures as I haven't been there for a while. It was bitterly cold!
It was raining when we arrived at the archery field and very soggy under foot. Darren decided to give it a miss and we drove back and went to Skirlington boot sale and market. It really was heaving there. hundreds of cars. So cold, if I had seen one I would have bought another woolly hat! We hadn't found the No Nails so I bought this glue hoping it would be good enough for me to finish off the tiles and get them into place.
At first I thought it wasn't going to work but tried a little patience and it did stick firmly. I started with two battens to attach the board to, then stuck the tiles on and then was the moment to get it into place. This has been quite a long process, from having the idea, doing the design to mirror my chair covering and the curtains, then getting the tiles, painting them and getting them to Scarborough to be fired. I am really pleased with the result, well worth the effort and the fireplace did look a bit messy before.
Have cleared away, had dinner and watched the painting program. Getting tired now as I got up at 5 am today!
I’m not surprised to hear that you’re tired this evening, as it’s been a long and busy day. I bet Tina singing did sound great. Such good acoustics in churches.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it was the weather or Easter, but the car boot here was only small today. At least you had a second one to visit that does sound very large. You were a right pair of gadabouts this morning. Seaside and sarnies, what a good combination. Can’t believe you went to Scarborough, took pics, and there’s not one of the castle!
The tiles look brilliant. It’s been a long project from start to finish, and a lot of travelling involved too, but so worth it! I’m amazed how good a match you got to the chair fabric as I know when you’re painting the tiles it looks nothing like the finished object.
Enjoy a bit of relaxing this evening, hopefully with a little chocolate. You deserve it.
Yes, a busy day and so happy with the tiles.
ReplyDeleteI did look at the castle, quite clear considering it was such a grey day.
A pity you didn't have much of a boot sale to mooch round, maybe it will be better next week.
Pottery on the Generation game now, should be hilarious!!
Oh wow Jan, the tiles are beautiful and is that your room them. With a real fireplace, it's amazing. What is the view from your window and what r the neighbours like? (good neighbours r the most important thing these days u never know what a nuisance they could bring). Thank you so much for the Easter card. It sounds a nice service that Tina did. I wish I could sing xxx
ReplyDeleteThat is my sitting room Julie, I look out over the front garden which is quite big, there are shops opposite. The house is laid back and detached, a museum one side and a cafe, bar the other, but no real problems. Talk to you soon. xx
