A day in the garden

I had thought of going out this afternoon, but in the end apart from putting the dustbin out I haven't left the house, or more accurately the garden.
A lovely morning for a change. There is a lot to do to get ready for using the tiller but I am concentrating on removing the grass that has spread into the flower beds first.
I took my time today and had breaks, the cats both came out and kept an eye on me as well. There are not only the tree roots to contend with but ivy runners all through the bed and various roots and branches.
I can honestly say that this is probably the first time I have enjoyed being out in the garden, and slowly the bed is beginning to take shape. I did keep getting bad stomach cramps which hampered progress a bit, hope it wasn't the lamb casserole as I have had the rest of it this evening!

When Tina took me to the garden centre on Thursday I didn't intend to buy any plants, but I love forget me knots, and especially the pink ones, which I have attempted to grow with varying success. So did just buy a couple of pots of them, split one and put it with the few plants I have already put out. The sun was bright then so can only just about tell they are pink!

I had some lunch and then gathered up some sketching stuff, thought I would try and capture the big tree with the ivy up it. Hadn't been out long when the sun disappeared, the wind came up and it looked like rain. Ah well, at least I felt like painting.

Used one of my 'posh' fountain pens.
I have done a few more chores and watched a bit of tv. I am enjoying the painting challenge, perhaps their efforts are what has made me decide to get my paints out? The final part of Ordeal by Innocence tonight, which is really good.

  1. I’m pleased to hear that you actually enjoyed a bit of gardening today, rather than it being a chore that has to be done. It’s surprising how a little bit of sunshine makes all the difference. Hopefully we’ll get weeks of it soon. Probably a tad optimistic of me I suppose. It really does look nice when it’s been turned over and de-weeded. Hopefully the tiller will make life even easier for you. When you get to sit out there in the glorious sunshine we’re going to have, with an afternoon tea and scone, you’ll be at one with the garden and it will have been worth the effort. Hopefully once all the initial work is done, keeping it in hand will be a lot easier.
Shame you didn’t get to spend more time out there sketching, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty of other opportunities. It looks like a tree to me :-)

  2. It is raining now, so depends how much we have, I had planned to do a bit more tomorrow but that may have to change.
Will go and make a drink in a moment so that I can settle down to the last part of the drama.
I noticed this morning that the bonsai trees do get a bit of sunshine in the morning, I had been a bit concerned that I may have put them in permanent shade.
