This morning I finished root pruning the rest of the bonsai trees. Only just had enough compost, will have to buy a sack the next time they need doing!
I didn't take a picture of another stand and that has three more pots on it, so there was a lot to do and it is really mucky freeing up all the roots before you can trim them. But some of the trunks/roots are really looking like mature trees now.
I went down to the shop and took this picture of one of the tubs that I planted up when we first moved here, they are looking pretty now.
These little flowers on the lawn near the front wall are so pretty in the sunlight. We think they are harebells.
Darren assembled the tiller while I was doing the trees and when Tina was home at lunchtime she had the first go and then I braved it to see if I could manage.
We had got to this point when Tina had to go out.
The blades kept getting roots round them, bit like thread on the vacuum but much harder to remove!
I tilled the complete length of the area we were doing and then hoed it and put some paving slabs down.
Now that's looking like something has been done today!!
I sat on the chair from the greenhouse and admired it for a while, looked up and could see the buds on the tree, good excuse for another tree and sky shot.
The hot weather today opened the magnolia flowers and one had dropped already and the other is about to, so they have been short lived!
I didn't feel too bright this morning but have ended up doing quite a bit. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight, going to a craft session in the morning.
Another really busy day for you. You’ll wear yourself out! You’re supposed to be retired and taking life easy.
ReplyDeleteThe bonsai do look good, and hopefully you won’t have to touch them for a couple of years now. I really like the white flowers on the lawn. The only ones I ever see are daisies and buttercups. But even they look pretty in the summer.
Looks like the tiller is a great success. The bit you’ve done looks really good. That would have taken forever by hand. A nice sharp pair of secateurs should help with the roots around the blades. A small price to pay for the effectiveness of it. Looks like a proper flower bed now :-)
A good day all in all, and you got some really nice sun to take some pics in.
Hope you do sleep well tonight.
It's funny how you don't feel so tired when you have something to show for a bit of hard work.
ReplyDeleteThe tiller seemed fierce to start with but we soon got the hang of it. We will clear areas initially as we did with that bed as removing some of the roots and we do want to move out flowers seems to be a sensible way to go.
I love the form of some of the little trees now, makes them seem older, although of course I have had most of them for quite a while now.
