There but not there

Yesterday evening when Tina got home she was calling me and saying 'bring the camera'. I had only been saying we hadn't seen a lot of snails but after the rain they were having a race up the wall!

I like the low light setting so thought I would take a picture of the tulips Tina got me when we were shopping.

I was putting the recycling out this morning, in good humour today until I opened the door and was confronted with the remains of a goldfinch, such pretty little birds but sadly now one less. I got the tools ready and headed off to the front garden to get on with that flower bed.
I wanted to clear a patch up to the porch and then decide how to proceed. There were five more complete edging tiles and a few broken bits. Stopped to take a picture of a bee on a marigold and a close up of a tiny forget me knot, using the older camera for in the garden as I  get mucky and don't want to get any problems with the new one.

Once I had cleared the length of the bed I trod it down so that I could get further back and see what I needed to do.
I had thought of trying to work round some of the plants, but as I got started there were just too many roots and even a dead tree that I decided it would all have to come out and I would have to start from scratch.

The garden bin was emptied this morning and I have now filled it again, pity it is only emptied fortnightly. I got a fair way along but it is quite hard going so will leave the rest for another day.
On a different note the post came and at last my 'There but not there' statuette has arrived. Just about ten inches high and I love it. Worth the wait.

That is where Tommy is going to stay.
Last night I mixed some texture paste but didn't colour it. Did a white image and coloured it with pearlescent water colours. I had already coloured the backing paper. I started assembling it this morning but kept cutting things the wrong size, but it is finished now.
Hopefully having a trip out to the Humber Bridge with Tina tomorrow.

  1. Snail racing up north! Thought it was whippets up there :-)
The low light setting on that camera does make a good job of it. Much better on a subject like the flowers than using flash. Not so washed out.
Not a good start with the bird remains, but you certainly got a fair bit done. Think I’d have probably buried the cat while I was at it :-)
The statue is very different and actually works really well. Some people do have some very creative ideas. Hope they sold lots of them.
The card is great. You’ve really hit on a good technique there, and I can see you using it in lots of different ways on the cards. I wonder if you could use it in a painting too? I was thinking of a painting of flowers or trees, or anything really, but with just one part of it partially 3D. If that makes any sense.
Hope you have a good trip out on your special day tomorrow.

    1. The low light is good, and easy to get too which is a bonus!
Maybe another session or two on that bed and then we will probably till it.
I had to wait quite a while for the Tommy statue so hopefully that means that they have been swamped with orders.
I am thinking of trying a picture with the technique but will use maybe hardboard as the moisture does make the water colour paper warp a bit. I will give it some thought, so it may take a while, can't be doing too much thinking!!
