At last, identification!

It has turned much colder but was dry this morning so I went out to attempt some clearing on the other flowerbed at the front of the house. It is full of plants and weeds and has grown over the edging tiles, it is indeed in desperate need of attention.
It was hard going and my little fork now has another bent tine, it has been put to good use though. Because the bed is so full it had dried out and was like concrete, and getting to the edging tiles was a bit of a challenge too. Haven't seen too many snails and slugs here but this one was obviously rudely disturbed.
I was probably outside for a couple of hours and there is a long long way to go.
I did manage to get most of the edging tiles out, there may be four or five more at the porch end.
I cleaned them off and laid them out like that as rain was forecast and I thought that would give them a wash. I has been raining so will see if they look better tomorrow. This flower bed has a lot of that 'sticky weed', so it was good that I wore gloves today as I am allergic to that particular weed.
We have a plant in the back garden that we didn't recognise, pretty four petal flowers and heart shaped leaves. I did eventually find it in the wild flower book, we had been thrown because the illustration in the book is very pink. The good news is that it is Honesty, which I absolutely love when it has the fantastic seed pods.
Went to an 'open house' celebration with Tina as one of the parishioners was celebrating his 80th birthday. I had a quiet afternoon after that when Tina went to a meeting, and then we went and did some grocery shopping.
It has been raining for a while now, so not sure if I will get back in the garden tomorrow.

  1. Even that border looks huge in the pic. I’d have left it natural to encourage wildlife :-)You are a glutton for punishment! I don’t know what you’ll do once it’s all under control. You’ll get bored. I do like those edge tiles. They’d cost a fair few quid to buy these days too.
Just had to look up the honesty seed pods. I really like them too. Never knew what they were though. So I’ve learned something. Obviously I’ll have forgotten it again by tomorrow though!
Sounds like a busy day with the gardening, partying and shopping. One day you’ll take it easy.....one day.

  2. We are trying to match that bed up to the other one, and also need it clear for when we are ready to gravel the drive.
Will be digging carefully round the honesty plants.
We also identified the bluebells, the ones we have are the Spanish intruders, we do have a a few native ones to plant up.

  3. Love the flower of the honesty plant, the leaves look like nettle leaf to me. the edging tiles are similar to what my parents had in our garden when a child.
I love a wild array of flowers. A good idea of Mikes to have at least 1 bed.
    Don't go over doing it.

  4. I thought it was a member of the nettle family to start with as well, the wildflower book is displayed in colour sections, didn't find it straight away because ours are a very different colour to the ones in the garden. We have an area under the tree in the back that I intend to sew wild flower seeds in. x
