This morning I said cheerio to Darren and Tina before setting off to do my session at the charity shop. They would be leaving for the weekend away while I was out. The shop wasn't as busy today, well, not with customers, but I was helping to sort and price things up and get them put out on display for the weekend trade. I am not really a jewellery person, except of course for earrings, but while I was sorting through boxes of jewellery for the shop I saw this little ring. The rings are only priced at 49 p and this on fits my small finger, so home it came!
As I am home alone this weekend I fancied having fish and chips for my dinner so went to Harpers on the way home after my session. A small fish and chips, with mushy peas and a cup of tea, I really enjoyed it.
It looked like it might brighten up briefly, but that was short lived. I did go and check the greenhouse, it gets warm in there and I need to make sure that everything isn't drying out.
I sat outside in the walled garden for about an hour and a half getting on with the root pruning of the bonsai trees. I am almost out of compost again, will have to get a large bag next time, I have done eleven trees. Just four planters to go but they have a total of nine trees in them and they need to be separated into different containers, so need to get more pots as well as compost.
I am sure I started my oldest miniature tree when I was working in Kent, which means it is now at least fifteen years old. The trunk and roots are really looking good.
Cats fed for now, washing in and Have I Got News For You later, so all good here.
Seems like you really enjoy the work at the charity shop. You definitely get to do a bit of everything in there, and not so much steaming, which is a good thing :-) Lovely little ring, and such a small amount of money for something so nice. Does sometimes make you wonder why things end up in places like that. But we’ve all taken stuff over the years, and I bet people think the same about the bargains we’ve supplied.
ReplyDeleteA fish and chip lunch sounds the perfect way to finish off a mornings volunteering. Not had any myself for ages. I really must have some.
Those bonsai do seem to take a lot of effort to keep them going, but I don’t suppose you’ll do a great deal to them for a couple of years, so it’s not too bad. I very much doubt I’d be able to keep one alive for 15 years!
Definitely feet up with HIGNFY I think, and well deserved.
I am never exactly raring to go when I set off, but it is good now and both the manager and assistant are happy to leave me at the till while they sort stuff out and get their paperwork done. So I end up enjoying it and the four hours soon pass.
ReplyDeleteIt is so messy doing the roots of the trees, but I know it needs to be done and helps to keep them small. I don't shape them as they should be done, but I like them as they are and am always pleased if I manage to get them through another winter!
Making flowers and making my thumbs really ache, must stop!!
