Dentist day

It snowed again in the night so it looked much the same as yesterday. It did start to snow again before I went over to the bus stop.

I needed to catch an early bus, about 9.15 am, so before I could use the pass. But, after waiting in the freezing cold for over twenty minutes as it was very late I didn't have to part with any cash after all! My foot that keeps going numb was also very cold by the time I got on the bus, it was quite a while before I got some life back into it. The bus did get to Hull in just over an hour once we were on it, very few pick ups and the main roads were pretty clear. At the bus station I found the bay for the bus that went along Anlaby Road. I wasn't sure where to get off so stopped the bus just after the hospital. The houses where I got off were in the low 200's and I was going to 549!! So a pretty long walk past some enormous houses ensued, luckily the pavements weren't too slippery.
Going over that overpass was distinctly chilly! I got to the dentists with about six minutes to spare. Got seen quite quickly, check up and a bit of plaque removal and another appointment in six months. I caught the bus back into the city centre. Had a pretty horrid toasted sandwich, which was actually warmed soggy bread rather that toasted, but ate it and enjoyed the hot drink as it was gone midday and I had left home just after 9 am. A few city pics.

I wanted to get to the fountain, I had seen it from the bus on the way in, as it was a bit frosted up. Also took a flower bed just by it.

I thought the statue commemorating the men lost in the African war was stunning against the sky.
I got the bus back to Hornsea, and snuggle with a blanket and a hot drink when I got home. Since then I have sorted out the embroidery threads and will make an attempt at the chair back, I can always use artistic license.

Had tea with Darren and Tina from the pizza place which made a nice change.
Holby and Shetland this evening so that's me sorted.

Winter walk

Well, the snow arrived, maybe not quite as heavy as forecast, but quite a sight first thing.

The sun has dipped in and out during the day, snow showers during the morning and more forecast for tonight.
I wanted to go to the post office, so wrapped up and set out for a winter walk. The flooded park 'pond' was frozen today.
No actual snow on the beach, the sun on the water was striking and the wind pretty cold again!

I didn't want to just walk back into town, so thought I would make it a longer outing and head along the Trans Pennine trail.

Those grasses in that picture were really bending in the wind. I bet this horse had a cold tummy after breakfast!
I carried along, thought of coming down the steps and through to the town, but thought I would see if I could find the path down to the Tesco car park.
This plant looked more red than it had before because of the snow.
I did go down the bank behind Tesco, someone had told me there was a gate, but I couldn't find it and I wasn't prepared to make an exhibition of myself getting through the fence, so went back to the trail!

Then made my way back into town along the main road..
I managed to watch Strike today and enjoyed it. Then I decided to set to and make the chair back ready to embroider. The material and lace work quite well.
But sadly the transfer was feeling it's age! I got some onto the material and marked out a bit more, but it is going to be a challenge to say the least, so may re think the whole idea.
I would normally watch Holby and Shetland this evening but think they may have been changed to tomorrow because of live football.

Arctic wind but not much snow yet.

A very cold snap has arrived, but so far today's snow hasn't arrived, we did have a flurry earlier. Tina was off to a care home on the front this morning so I had a lift and had a bracing walk by the sea, boy was that wind cold! A grey sea.

The starlings and seagulls had decided that the grass was better than the beach for lunch today!
Managed to get a glimpse of one of the wind farms.
Then walked back in the opposite direction to the Floral Hall for refreshment.
I took a slow walk home, calling in on a couple of shops en route.
I did shorten a couple of pairs of trousers this afternoon, but other than that I have been reading the Eleanor Oliphant book, which I am finding hard to put down!
Will probably watch Strike on catch up tonight.

Another jardiniere!

This morning Darren and I set off for the market and car boot sale. We had our sausage sandwich and cup of tea before going to the car boot area. Charging 30p to go in now, but there were more stalls this time. Last time we went there had been a jardiniere that I really liked, but neither of us had much cash with us. Today the man was there again and so was the said jardiniere. He wanted £12 but sold it to me for £10. Happy with that as I had paid £10 for the large flower pot I got to put on my wooden stand. I had to rearrange things a bit when I got it home, so for now it is over by the tv.
We didn't buy anything else, or in the market for that matter, although we did have a cup of hot chocolate because it was really very cold.
I have felt really tired today, not 100% at all. I sat trying to read my latest book, which I am really enjoying, but kept falling asleep over it. After a while I thought I would make a drink and go into the greenhouse for a bit, check on the seeds and maybe plant a few more. I needed to liven up a bit before getting dinner.
The sweet peas are doing nicely despite the cold outside.
I set a few more seeds and a silly little kids sunflower planter.

I also put the pig jigsaw type flooring pieces down, so quite comfortable under foot in there now.
Of course, Mike and Brian sorted the door of the greenhouse out for me so that it is now sealed, so quite cosy in there once the door is shut.
I tried taking photos of the curtains again to give some sense of the colour, not overly successful, it is hard to get a good picture in that large room and against so much light.

Almost time for Endeavour, will watch Strike on catch up.

Chill by the sea, but beautiful

This morning seemed like time to get the Gtec out and get hoovering. It sure gets a good workout here! I use the hand held on the stairs.
A cold day but lovely and bright so thought I would go out for a walk back to the beach. Darren had said that there was a table top sale in the town hall so I called in on the way by. There was a lady who had masses of really old embroidery transfers, fascinating, she said some were out of magazines that were older than me! I bought this old fashioned garden scene as I intend to embroider it and make it into a chair back for my rocking chair.
It looks like it will still iron on okay, won't know until I try though.
I walked along the promenade rather than the beach today, it didn't seem too bad, when I turned back I realised that I was walking with the wind on the outward journey!

The sea was loud and foamy today. A couple more shots from the cliff top, it eventually fell away so that if I want to walk further I will need to take to the beach.

When I got home the curtain lady was here hanging the curtains in the dining room A close up of the material, and I will add one of the curtains, but it is bad, I tried with and without flash but to no avail, so have had to lighten it. We have been told to leave them to settle for a couple of days.
Casualty in a bit, Darren and I will probably go to the market tomorrow.
