The amaryllis is now dying off, but it has been fabulous for quite a while, it was interesting that the fourth bloom only had four petals and the other three had six.
I had an early doctors appointment, didn't really allow enough time and had to go quite briskly in the cold as it was further than I had remembered. It is the only surgery in Hornsea and the surrounding district, I was surprised to see a queue of about twenty people waiting to go in when I arrived. Having said that it all runs very efficiently and the lady doctor I saw was very pleasant. My blood pressure is still up so she said she would have bloods tested and I was to have an ECG and also take in a urine sample and have my blood pressure taken again and she would see me in a weeks time. As I said, it was all very efficient, the receptionist said I could have the blood taken and the ECG while I was there and take the urine sample in when I go to take my own blood pressure on a machine later in the week! Meanwhile of course it is lose some weight, take more exercise and cut down on salt. She said I have a good pulse in my foot and the reason for the numbness may show up in the test results.
From there I walked to the sea front and had a drink watching the sea.
Did a bit of housework on my return and then thought I would go and have yet another go at the flower bed. Looking out of the window, which explains the quality of the photo, I spotted the cats on a roof. Good vantage point from there of the museum garden and the park.
So out to that flower bed again.
The hard part was done but I wanted to turn the whole bed over and level it off. I half filled the pink truck thing twice again today with bulbs and finer roots, still a few bigger roots too. I sat on a stool for a few minutes and took this picture of how far I had got.
Then when I had done the whole bed and got the last few edging tiles out.
Tina wants us to reduce the size of the bed so that we can improve the parking, and have less flower bed to care for of course. So I hoes and raked and then trod down part of the bed. We will put some of that wooden edging in that we bought at some point.
Spent about another three hours out there today, it is unbelievable. There is another bed the other side of the house, I am hoping that it will not be as hard as this one has been.
So, plenty of exercise today I think, just got to resist the temptation to snack all evening!!
The amaryllis has done well, and still looks quite good even though it’s on the way out.
ReplyDeleteYou do have an extremely efficient surgery from the sounds of it. It’s very unusual that they can do the blood test and an ECG “while you wait”. I know they can’t do it if you’re not there, but you know what I mean. A bit like the infamous sign that reads “ears pierced while you wait”!
The front looked very moody in those pics, I do like the light though.
The flower bed has been a real struggle, and has obviously been a lot harder than it has looked. But I have to say it looks pretty good now you’ve finished it. Will look even better with a bit of edging and some gravel. The other side should be a doodle after that one!
It is good to know I have done all I can do for now on that one. Well, that's probably not completely true as I am sure if I dug it again I would move another half cart of roots etc!
DeleteI liked that area when the sun was trying to break through the clouds over the sea, it was well in again this morning.
I was very impressed with my first visit to the surgery, especially as my heart sank initially when I saw the queue, thinking chaos would be the order of the day"
