Tina took to the hotel this morning so that I could have a swim. Realised as I was getting my bag ready that I had left my travel shampoo and conditioner containers at the pool last week again! Did check after my swim and someone was on duty, but I have lost them again. Ah well, I won't be buying a third set so that I can lose them. That aside I had the pool to myself again and managed a twenty minute continuous swim today, did a few exercises as well, so it was a good session. I walked into town and had a coffee, then went to the Gift shop where we got Shashi and bought a really whacky pedal bin for Tina. We had seen it together a few days ago and it is great fun, well, it is if you like silly things as much as we do!
It was fun getting it home on the bus along with my swimming bag.
It has been grey and wet today but it was lovely yesterday. I think I got the autumn crocuses planted just in time, they are happy plants. Only put them in a week ago today!
Today I decided to try making a Madeira cake, I thought if it turned out well it will be good for the non fruit part of the wedding cake that I am making for Tina's Celebration of Marriage service next month. It looks good and Tina and I had to taste it and it is a tasty cake.
The vigorous fern on the landing has actually tied itself into a know on the wall - impressive!
Some miniature autumn colour in the garden, the bonsai tree and a shrub in a tub out the front.
I have been sorting my cooking area and this evening I am going to go through the paper work, not really feeling inspired, but it needs attention.
What a thieving lot they are at that pool! You’d think somebody would hand stuff like that in. Don’t blame you for not buying any more.
ReplyDeleteLove the pedal bin. Very you, and Tina. The cats might be interested in it too. Bet Darren rolled his eyes :-)
That cake looks absolutely lovely! I adore Madeira cake as you well know by now. Strangely I’ve never made one myself. I may give it a go after seeing how nice yours turned out. I’m surprised you attempted it knowing what a sod your oven is. Really do fancy some now, and I bet the shop next door has plenty. They won’t be anywhere near as good as yours though.
You’re doing well with the plants. The bonsai do look very colourful, and the crocuses are acting like triffids. The knotty fern is unusual too.
Good luck for tomorrow. I’ll have my fingers firmly crossed.
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteDon't think I have ever made a Madeira cake before either. I used that little ancient booklet I got, have tried a few of the simpler, old fashioned recipes. But I wouldn't attempt a sponge, even from that book!
The cat bin is fun, nice little lift out bucket inside, more novelty that practical I think.
I do have reasonable success with the plants, bit like a jungle round here!
Thanks for the good wishes for tomorrow, really hope there is some resolution.
That little booklet has proved very useful. I’m sure I told you, but you know my memory, I managed to get a version of it myself. Not quite the same but only a few years different. I’ve made a few things from it and they’ve all been good.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do remember you got a copy. Good basic no nonsense recipes.
