Bit of baking!

Apart from going to get my flu jab this morning I have spent a good bit of the day in the kitchen, this morning making food for the freezer and this afternoon a pie for dinner and some treats to eat. But will start with the great sky again last night.

When I made the turkey cottage pie and lasagne I used the new dishes that we got yesterday. A perfect size to then divide into tour portions to go into the freezer.
I had some ingredients left over from making the Christmas cakes so thought I would make a light fruit cake, Darren does like to have a cake to cut into and this one, from an old recipe book, turned out well, despite the erratic oven.
We got two enormous cooking apples yesterday and a few raspberries and blueberries, so a bit crumble was in order for them.
Tina doesn't like fruit cake, but she does like cheese scones!
My pastry making has been a bit hit and miss of late, but the steak and mushrooms were cooked so pastry was needed to make a pie. It did crack a bit, so not a great success, but it didn't fall apart completely as it has a few times, and it tasted okay!
So, on the whole a pretty successful day of baking, but my knee and ankle are not happy with me at the moment, too much standing, but feet up now, so they will be fine. It has rained on and off and this evening the sky was looking nice but the window was wet,so some 'arty' skies to finish today.

Darren and I are hoping that the rain will stay away so that we can have a wander at the boot sale. Casualty later and I am watching the very good tribute acts at the moment.

  1. All the skies are great as usual, even the ones from tonight through the wet glass. I'm going to have to go out somewhere one of these evenings to take some of my own. I look out the window most nights, but have no chance of getting anything from there.
The results of your days baking look really nice and tasty. The pie looks great to me. I don't care if the top cracks, as long as it melts in the mouth :-)
I'm sure that's cheese on top of those scones, but it looks like tomato paste in the pics. I'd still eat them though, as I'm sure Tina will! While Darren is enjoying cake. You spoil them :-)

  2. Yes, it is cheese, and it does look dark on the picture. The pie all got eaten so it went down well.
The skies just keep surprising me, sometimes similar but always variation.
