A bits and pieces day

I have had quite a busy day, ended up going into town three times! Tina took me to the hotel on her way to her morning meeting. The sun was really bright first thing so the bay photos are like silhouettes.

I had the pool to myself for a good twenty minutes, it was a bit cooler today so I thought I would try swimming round and round without actually stopping. I managed over fifteen minutes continuous swimming which I was quite pleased with. I was out and changed in time to get the 925 am bus home. I sorted the washing out I had put in before I left and got the shopping trolley ready as I was going to get the bus into town and make my way to the Poundstretcher store. I have only been there a couple of times as it is a bit out of the way, but it has a great variety of items and I was hoping they had some compost. I got a few bit and eventually found some compost, also a couple of small planters that were plastic made to look like barrels. They were only a pound each and the holes were already open in the bases. The cheap pots usually leave it for you to try and punch out the holes and I invariably damage the container! Caught the bus home and went straight out to plant up the very large bulbs I had sent for, they are the large autumn crocuses and are already sprouting.
I had four so planted two in each of the containers.
I know my bonsai trees are really not very professional, but I have kept them going for quite a few years now and this year two of them are actually looking autumnal, which really makes me happy.
While I was at Poundstretchers I bought a ball of wool which can be made into a hat, the instructions were on the inside of the wrapper.
I fancied starting to make the hat this afternoon but after checking I didn't have the needles that I needed. The local wool shop is closed on Monday so I caught the bus into town again! I walked down to Boyes and got the right size, I also had a look round the indoor market and they have russet apples already. They are my favourite apples and not always easy to find.
I took it easy but walked home from town, I took this hydrangea because I have never spotted one with the dappled effect before.
I cut through towards the cliff top taking a picture of one of the odd shaped houses that are quite common in Scarborough.
I am not sure that I have ever seen the tide so far in, almost up to the wall in front of the beach huts.
They were resurfacing the shore road, the sea was rough and very wintry looking.
I saw this attractive garden sculpture in the grounds of the luxury private apartments on North Marine Road.
When I got home for the third time I started the knitting, I will post a picture when it is done. When Tina got home she brought a present back for me from Debbie. Never seen cake tins like these before!

So a varied day today and I managed a bit more walking than I have done recently. The ankle was quite sore when I got home but it has settled down now. Back to the knitting I think!

  1. Blimey, you have been active today! I hope you don't suffer for all the walking you've been doing. I think those barrel tubs you ok, specially for a pound. You can't go too wrong. The bonsai really do look good too. You've done very well with them over the years. I remember you taking them out the pots and cutting the roots back, and thinking to myself that I wouldn't have had the courage to do it in case I killed them! Bet they must be due another trimming before too long.
I remember that corner house very well from my visits up there, think I even have a few pics I took of it myself. Don't remember it being bright red though!
The sea does look very high and rough. Not the perfect weather for resurfacing roads, but I suppose they have to do it at the end of the season when there's little traffic. Bet they get sprayed quite often :-)
The cake mounds look interesting. I've seen that sort before on The Great British Bake Off. Think they turned out really nice, but caused a bit of concern to the baker using them. You won't have quite so much pressure on you though when you're testing them out. I look forward to seeing the results.
No sunsets tonight. A very rare occasion!

  2. I didn't trim the roots this year so will need to do them next spring. I don't panic quite so much over it now but I still don't like doing it.
There won't be any sunsets tomorrow on the blog either as it was a grey evening tonight.
I am knitting, should have a new had in a couple of days!
