Yesterday evening I worked on the raggy quilt, it is very thick and a bit hard going. I got two rows sewn together yesterday which left another five to join on and the edge to do. Darren and I went out about 9.30 am so that he could bring back my footstool, folding table and various other bits back from the beach hut. The key has to be back on Saturday so will go down again before I hand it in. When we got back I ploughed on with the quilt and managed to get all I can do so far done about 12.45 pm, just in time to keep Tina company of a trip for her to minister at a funeral.
The funeral was at East Riding Crematorium, on the way to Hull. Tina hadn't been there before and after we intended to go and visit a Norman church that has a monolith in the grounds. The garden of remembrance at the crematorium was very peaceful and well planned.
A short drive away was Rudston church, fabulous old building, and open to the public!
We walked round the church first to see the 25 ft high monolith, said to be the tallest standing stone in the country. It is huge and very near to the church, but if it has been there for 4000 I guess there is not much likelihood of it crashing into the building!
The graveyard was really old fashioned, and Rudston is a tiny place in the middle of nowhere.
Inside the church was great as well, plenty of stained glass and lots of carved wood. This is one of the more traditional windows.
Looking up towards the altar.
Closer to the alter the floor and whole area was just lovely.
This is a very interesting use of energy saving bulbs!
I liked the modern stained glass window.
When I win a few million, this lovely old school house, just opposite the church and is for sale, has my name on it!!

When we got home I make, what I think is the last ham and turkey pie with meat from Christmas. Best go and clear up after the sewing now!!

  1. A busy and interesting day for you. The quilt even looks heavy from the photo! I'm sure it'll be nice and warm on your legs on a chilly evening, or even as a nice warm quilt on the guest bed for your visitors :-)
The church and monolith are lovely, and I wouldn't mind a trip to it on another visit. The photo of the very inappropriate light bulbs made me chuckle!
I can see why you've fallen in love with the little cottage.
