This morning I was helping a lady called Jill sort through theological books. They are reducing their huge collection so the nuns go through rows at a time to see which ones they want to keep, and the rest go on another table. I spend some time getting the ones on the table into alphabetical order as that makes it easier for the next stage, which is finding the appropriate card and removing it for each book so that they are no longer catalogued. I did do some card finding as well, it is a long labour intensive job. Jill takes the checked books home and has difficulty finding homes for them so some just end up on the recycling. I was impressed to see that the cards in the card indexes are all made from old greetings cards etc, these nuns were well ahead of the game with recycling!
Nice selfie with Jill, that may be the only one!
After lunch Mark took my up to a shopping park a mile or so away. I had something to buy for one of the sisters but there were a few other shops so I had a look round. A low budget store was there called Home Sense, I got some cards and spent a while looking at a range of decorations they had that had been made in India. I ended up buying this one that was reduced as the middle stone is missing, but I am sure I will be able to find something to fit.
I got some notecards from TheWorks and some stamps from Tesco! Then I walked along to Sainsbury’s before turning down the road back to the abbey. I got a phone call when in Tesco, fighting with the mask and not really liking talking in shops on a phone, but it was a Hull number. Providing we can make the appointment on Friday, which could be a bit tight, I have a COVID test on Friday afternoon and then self isolate for the weekend and fingers crossed the first carpel tunnel operation on Monday. Will keep you posted on that one!
I walked home with a couple of shopping bags, not to heavy otherwise I would have been dropping them when the hands went dead!
Have looked at a magazine I bought, lots of recipes which I am unlikely to try but they are nice to imagine!
A bit achy so not doing a lot, think I am cleaning the altar brass tomorrow morning!
You’re the postbox queen whether it’s at home or away 😊
ReplyDeleteI bet there were some nice books they were getting rid of. Hopefully some of them will find new homes and will be put to good use. Seems a real shame that they’ll end up in recycling ☹️
That is a nice selfie. The only one you say. Does that mean you won’t be trying to get a group shot before you leave? 😊
I like the dragonfly. I bet you’ll soon have it looking whole again when you get home.
The hospital appointment is great news. A bit of a rush around, but hopefully it’ll all work out ok. Just don’t get Covid between now and then!
I hope the altar brass isn’t large pieces or you’ll be polishing a lot longer tomorrow. Bet the wrists will give you grief after doing that!
Enjoy a bit of relaxing at some point this evening.
It does seem a pity that most of the books will just go into recycling, but some are very old and musty and not in great condition.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the carers now, hopefully they won't be too late.
Will try to get photos of the nuns and Mark.
Nice memory seeing this post again.
