‘Pointy Things’, here we come

We have lived up here in Yorkshire, Scarborough and now Hornsea for ten years. Every tine we drive through Cayton I have remarked on the pointy things up on a cliff top. They cannot be reached by road, they are on the Cleveland Way trail. The walk is about a mile from Cayton Bay car park. Today was the day that Tina and I set off to see them. We had presumed they were something left over from the war. I looked on line and it said there were WW2 pill boxes there. So now lots of pics and maybe the odd comment.
Setting off, views and the things on the cliff top in the distance.
We were pretty near the edge on occasion and as we got further the path was very wet, muddy and quite treacherous.
As we got close I said that they looked like trees, not really believing my eyes and thinking perhaps the tree had grown round them! Wrong!
Tina checked and there was a different way back to the car park, quite a bit longer but not so dangerous. My some miracle we had both managed to stay upright but we’re concerned about going down the slope where Tina almost landed in the mud on the way up. So a few more pics.
Very close there!
Tina thought this would make a good arty shot.
We went by a farm shop with cafe so we’re glad of a sit down and cuppa before we walked the mile and a half back to the car park.
We both had saturated shoes and wet socks, but we’re glad we had done it. I wasn’t disappointed that they were trees, in fact I think it is amazing they have looked the same every year. They are close to the edge now though so may not be there much longer.
We drove to Scarborough mere and bought bird food. We have never seen the geese so vocal and hungry, it was deafening!
We called in to see Tina’s friend Debbie and as I hadn’t done a sketch I drew her roses!
We stopped at Eastfield garden centre for a drink and snack and sat in fabulous chairs!
Quite a day!

  1. Well that's quite a trek, but it does look like nice scenery so worth it. Seeing the pointy things has been on your bucket list for quite a while. Finally the day has come! Quite a treacherous adventure being so close to the edge at times, specially with the it being so slippery too! Some lovely views from up there, and the pill boxes will be worth a visit another time. Can't believe after all that they were only trees! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But at least you know now.
I have to say though it looks a lovely place for a walk/trek. I'm sure you enjoyed it, even if it was only a couple of old trees ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ
The Rev was right, the old tank does make a good arty shot. Hope the cafe had a loo if the walk back was another one and a half miles!
Well if nothing else thats one mystery solved.
I like the mere at Scarborough. I enjoyed walking around it and feeding the birds. I know theyre always ready to relieve visitors of the food they have. Maybe they've not had so many visitors there recently?
I like the two silohette pics of the birds and of the tree. They're arty too. Talking of arty, the sketch is really nice. Looks like your'e going to keep up the sketch a day without any trouble.
WOW, that is a fabulous chair! Those sausage rolls look pretty fabulous too ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. It was a really good day, and perfect weather for taking photos.
We both love the mere, we didn’t walk round it today though!
