Bus trip to Hull

Yesterday evening Tina suggested a drive up to Mappleton to see the sea. She had a meeting so we didn’t leave until about 8.15pm. I made coffee for us to drink in the car and we set off. A lovely evening with subtle coloured sky and pretty quiet, only a couple of other cars. We have been when there are no spaces at all!

This morning I went to Hull on the bus, the first time since before lockdown. It is over an hour each way but not too bad with the mask on as the windows were open and there were only about six of us downstairs. My legs were slightly less painful today so I walked to The Works which is a fair way when you are old and decrepit! The town was fairly quiet and there were free benches for me to take a rest if necessary.
I got some more of the small canvases with easels and then cut into the back of Princes Quay where I had some lunch. Stopped to take a picture of the new funky bridge!
I went to Debenhams as I had a couple of small vouchers but ended up just getting some trousers for Tina. She had asked me to look if I felt up to it as she has done well for trousers that fit from there. Then I made my way slowly back to the bus station. I got a bottle of orange juice to drink on the bus, but try as I might I couldn’t get the top off, and with Corona virus restrictions couldn’t really ask anyone to help me! So, a drink of orange juice when I got home!
This evening we got the porch onto the hedgehog house and Darren helped us move a huge paving slab for it to sit on. Now in place so we will see if a hedgehog finds it.
Tina and I both think that we just had single colour gladioli in the bed in the back garden last year. This year they are stunning, we had mauve and white ones separately, not sure if they can cross pollinate but we don’t really care how, they are lovely!

The sunflower is opening, and it is a very dark yellow, almost orange. Pretty tall too!
One more picture to finish, Tina has just taken it!

  1. A lovely way to end the day, a little trip out like that. It does look a lovely place and even nicer in the late evening. Some lovely pics to show it off too. It’s little trips like that that make it so nice to live so close to the sea.
Hull looks quite deserted in your pics. Definitely not good for the businesses in these times, but hopefully it’ll pick up before too long assuming everything doesn’t go downhill again! I bet it seemed strange taking the long bus trip, as you said it’s been some time since you’ve done it. Glad you made it to The Works, decrepit or not 😊 A sad state of affairs when you can’t get the top off a bottle though 😊
The hedgehog house looks very posh. I really hope the hedgehogs are still visiting you and decide to use it now. You’ll have to add hedgehog food to your ever growing list of wildlife food you get!
You both look very comfy in the final pic.

  2. It was really nice at Mappleton yesterday evening, lucky that is a pleasure we share.
Yes, Hull was very quiet, strange for a town centre in August! Good for social distancing though!we really hope that we do have a hedgehog visitor, fingers crossed,
