Skara Brae, Orkney

This 5,000 year old Neolithic village was buried under dunes and was rediscovered in 1850. It was occupied from about 3100BC to about 2600BC.
The huts were well constructed with cupboards, beds, dressers and even cells that may have been toilets. There was also a workshop. I found this place one of the most fascinating we visited and took endless photos. Will try not to be too repetitive!

The map shows the infrastructure which is amazing considering the dates.

Maybe just a few more!

  1. Blimey, digging that lot out of the dunes must have been fun, both the first time then uncovering it again. I can totally understand why you took so many pics. I find things like that really fascinating. As you say, very complex considering how long ago it was built.
Yet another very good reason to go to the Orkney’s. I’ll add it to my list. You never know, when I win the lottery 😊

  2. I loved everywhere we went on the trip, but I found this the most interesting. We were lucky with the weather which helped of course.
