Ring of Brodgar, Orkney

The Neolithic ring was originally 60 megaliths but 27 remain standing now. They formed a perfect circle 103.7m in diameter. This was surrounded by a
rock-cut ditch 10 m across and3m deep.
I took an awful lot of photos, will try and pick ones from varying angles.

You couldn’t get onto the ring but could walk all the way round. We spotted a rabbit on a mound and a cat on the prowl!

Will put a couple more on plus one from the distance trying to get the whole ring into view.

From there we went to the Sanding Stones of Stenness where my camera promptly died!did have my phone with me, the sheep ignored us!

As you can see you could go up to these stones.

  1. I can see why you took so many pics. Is a really lovely place with lots of interesting things and some great views too. The pics from your phone are just as good as the camera, but minus the zoom. Perfect in a situation like that though.
The stone structures are always fascinating. Considering how long ago they were done, the ingenuity was amazing. The sheep don’t look very impressed though 😊
A return trip, with several camera batteries is definitely a must.

  2. So many photos, but you just had to keep taking them!
My phone is pretty good now that I manage not to have my thumb in the way!
