It has been a tiring couple of days, but so glad that the weather improved and Tina and I were able to make the trip as planned. On every stage of the journey we managed to hit traffic or diversions, so no time to get bored!!
Tina and I stayed at the Premier Inn in Hemel town centre, nice room and we were comfortable. The lady on reception gave us plenty of extra milk and tea so we didn't move once we were in there. We had a lovely meal at Hazel and Brian's and Hazel made us sandwiches to take with us in the evening.
This morning we were having breakfast with them before we started the journey home. Pictures of the view outside the hotel and the hotel itself.
And a close up of the statue charmingly decorated with bird poo!!
We went to the Weatherspoons for breakfast. Another lovely building that was apparently opened by Lauren Bacall back in the day! Tina went to the ladies and told me to take the camera when I did, she wasn't wrong. The ceiling was amazing and the whole entrance very grand.
We set off for the A1 as we were coming home via Peterborough to see my sister who has also been unwell for a while now. Unsurprisingly we came to a stand still again as they are building a new part to the road and it was chaos for miles. Picture of a new road bridge under construction.
We had a drink and a nice chat with my sister and I was able to collect the cake container and some other bits. We did offer to take her for lunch but she declined, so we went to QD, had some lunch and did a bit of shopping before we set off again. As we neared Caenby Corner Tina said we would have a comfort break and then she noticed that out road away from there was closed by the police! There had been an accident between two lorries. We had a drink in Meat Inc, I really like their light fittings.
Tina worked out a new route to get us back onto the A 15 and we set off again. The compulsory pictures of the bridge when we got there.
We are glad to be home and thank you Tina so much for making the trip possible for me.
The weather clearing up certainly made the trip a little easier. Traffic jams and roadworks in the snow would have been awful. Your evening in the hotel sounded good. Plenty of tea and sandwiches, laying on the bed watching tell in the warm, perfect :-)
ReplyDeleteThe loo in Weatherspoons is totally amazing! Definitely back in the day when space wasn’t at such a premium.
The light bulbs are the Edison filament type. I like them too. I used the same type in the two touch lamps I built.....and never use!
Really good of Tina to drive you about like that. She’ll go to heaven.....well she would anyway, but you know what I mean :-)
The weather was so much better which meant it did make it a lot easier. We did have a relaxing evening at the hotel.
ReplyDeleteThe loo was something else I have to admit, very luxurious.
I remember you having that sort of lamp in the torch lamp, looked good on there too.
Tina will definitely sleep well tonigt and hopefully I will too.
