This morning Darren and I went armed with shopping lists and visited the two main super markets and had lunch. This afternoon I walked into town, got some material to make a net in the bedroom and a net rod, plus some other bits in Boyes. I cut down to the south bay via a different route, it seemed even steeper that the hill yesterday and was cobbled. But there were murals painted all the way down which made it really interesting.

I decided to walk right round the coast along the bays home, thinking I could jump on a bus if it all seemed too much! I took some pictures of the castle from different angles as I was closer and below it.

Just one of the sea pictures, the north bay from the other end. I have never walked right round so the views are different.
When I got home a magpie came to visit the feeders just as I was about to fill them up again, a daily job now!

I took the bus to Robin Hood's Bay today, supposed to be lovely, and a steep descent down to the sea. The view from the top was another beauty.
The bus had to come down a 25% hill, which seemed steep, the one to walk down was 30%! (Thanks for recommending it Rachel, perfect for an old lady with dodgy knees and ankles!!)
Then up some steps ...
Another seascape from lower down towards the shore.
I had a drink and a delicious, very bad, cream cake. This is the view from where I sat, I had walked along that higher level.
I took some pictures actually on the beach, but will just post one.
Heading back up there was this great sign in one of the shop windows.
I asked at a pub if I could sit on the bench outside to sketch if I had a cup of coffee. They were happy and even made me a nice weak coffee the way I like it! I had set myself a real perspective challenge, so just got it drawn and not coloured.

Rachel made a brief visit this morning and fetched a couple of my boxes. I only have two left to come home now so should be able to find a home for everything! She loved my little flatlet, except for the stairs! The canna lily has one flower now in full bloom and if the weather keeps good for a while longer I think a few more will open. I bought it for half price only a few weeks ago and am really pleased with how it has taken.
This afternoon I took a walk in Peasholm Glen, hoping that the trees would be looking autumnal. they weren't, but we did have very strong winds last week and a lot of the leaves fell then, so the ground was fairly colourful, but the trees were still attractive.

The squirrels were about in force, looking for nuts and digging away happily, some were brave enough to come to people with food and be hand fed. Wasn't quick enough to catch that.

I took a picture of the large statue I saw on a previous week but hadn't noticed the engraving down the side. It is really striking.

I walk quite a way through the glen and ended up going under the large bridge which I had got lost on during a previous walk. I would be able to find my way home now I think.

Lastly, how about this for an idea for a new hair style?

Tina and I took a trip into Hull today, Tina had things to do and I went along to keep her company. first stop was the car dealership to check out the blue of the new Hyundai car. Not a good blue, so a no go, but there was a second hand one, but nearly new which was the perfect colour, sapphire blue. We went for a test drive, I sat in the back, and to the representatives amusement I was trying to take a photo to catch the Humber Bridge out of the window. Just about succeeded!
Then, when the paper work was completed, including lots of laughter I took a pick of the new car.
We went into the town centre on an errand, and then Tina visited the church she used to attend while I had a wander along Newland Avenue. On the way home I took a photo of the sky while we were driving, a very car biased entry today!
Now that I have caught up with Strictly I will get something to eat.

I topped up the bird feeders again, boy are they getting through the food, then decided to get the plants we bought over a week ago into the front garden. The problem was that the ground needed a bit of preparation and is is so clumpy!
After a bit of digging and hoeing it was a little better, but not as good as it could be!

The Canna Lily is going to flower if the weather stays this good.

I went swimming fairly early, walked back through the park and it was a beautiful morning. Then Tina and I went to a Macmillan Coffee Morning at Peaches n Cream, an ice cream parlour on the front.
After that I walked into town and did some shopping then headed down to the south bay to catch the waterfront bus home. After Mike suggesting it I took a picture of the castle from a different position as I think I will do a collage of the castle pictures.

I walked back through Peasholm Park and took a picture of the waterfall in the sunlight.

Back home I filled up the bird feeders and Colonel joined me in the garden, decided to be a statue under the bush where the sparrows sit!

Then I took another picture of him sitting on the doorstep, a very handsome boy!

Went out with Tina this afternoon who was checking out a Hyundai car, we even had a test drive( Tina driving obviously} No decisions made, but it was interesting and fun really. Darren came in, and knowing how I like the skies, told me to look down the road. So, have taken another sky picture (I actually took several but will only post one!)
A more dramatic as opposed to pretty, but I love the variety.
I have been to town this morning, got an application form to volunteer at charity shop and had a list of things to get. Should have taken the trolley as the bird seed was quite heavy. There is a Cushionflex shoe shop in town which has very reasonably priced shoes. Although I have real trouble getting comfy shoes because of the width of my feet, but have got some shoes and boots and pain £45 in total. Trying the shoes at the moment and I think they will be fine, and they are not trainers!! Darren and I went down to the sea front last night and had fish and chips sat watching the sea. The castle looked impressive in the evening light.
The sunset wasn't as good as I had hoped, but this funky little car pulled up just as we were leaving.
This morning there were blue tits on the feeder and the first bird I have seen on the suet feeder. The wind was blowing a gale so I wasn't hanging out of the window waving the camera around - honestly!! You can see that they are not sparrows though.....

I went swimming fairly early, it was trying to rain, but by the time I came out it was tipping down. I walked to the front anyway because my hair was already wet! Autumn is definitely in the air.
Saw a solitary duck in the rain-
- and a solitary baby seagull!
I walked round the longer path by the lake and today saw the waterfall from the island flowing for the first time since I have been here. Not certain if it is now usually active or it the rain was the reason.
Although it was a really dull morning the flowers looked so bright and refreshed by the rain.

Spent the morning indoors writing some letters and discovering things I had 'misplaced'. When Tina came home we had some things to get for Darren at B & Q so we decided to have lunch at the Mere Cafe which is just behind the store. It is a semi open eating area and they sell food for the ducks and geese. So we had lunch and went off to see the birds. The view over the lake, like many round here, was great, and will be lovely as the autumn changes the trees.
We started throwing the pellets into the water and before long the swans were on their way.
At first it seemed the pellets were a waste of money as the birds showed little interest, but once they sank it was a different matter, I have never seen so many 'headless' swans!!
We went to B & Q where we got Darren's bits, a hook for me to make a pole to close my shower room window (it is in the roof) and a hand lawn mower so that I can do the lawns when the mood takes me. It is yet to be assembled, maybe later..... Walked down to the shop when we got back, to get letters posted and buy some ingredients for tea. Took a picture of the garden just down the road where they have an impressive display of sunflowers.

Took a couple of slightly clearer pics of the sparrows and then a lovely sky again!
