Team work will get us there!

I had no inclination to go to the gym, not that I am ever bursting with enthusiasm, but set off anyway, seeing the instructor again on Monday and she will check if I have been! The snowdrops in the front garden are popping up is different places, a few in the back as well. Parishioners that have commented hadn't realised they were there, I imagine there will be a few more surprises yet.
It was after sunrise when I got down to the sea but the sky was still attractive so never say no to a photo opportunity.

When Tina came in and we had got ourselves ready we went out into the garden, both working hard on our areas. Tina was digging out edging tiles, many broken, quite a task. She was at the top of the garden so got to chat to quite a few locals.
The edging was buried, probably because it is very old and has had no attention.  The plan is to re set it properly before the drive it sorted and gravel goes down. Meanwhile I made a start on one of the flower beds by the house.
As I worked I began to realise that most of it had to come out. The big bushes in the middle had roots coming out into the drive and they had well established brambles wrapped round them. The edging that looks like grass is some sort of bulb, they have been coming out too although I am sure plenty wil survive. Digging and pulling on those roots was enough exercise for me!
Then I begun to dig out the edging tiles as they were not broken and they are not so necessary as the ones at the top are, so we can use then to sort the edge out where Tina was doing stoic work.

I don't like to leave a job midway, but I had really had enough when I got this far. We discussed it and will probably halve the depth of that bed so that we can make better parking facilities, so getting the edging out had a double reason.
We both needed a rest after lunch! I got some shopping as I was going to try another recipe from the little book I got last week, I also wanted to make a crumble with apples that were not at there best as we have had them since Christmas.
The amaryllis has the third flower opening and the fourth is on the way.
I will put a picture of the courgette, pepper and tomato gratin as it is not unlike the illustration in the book.
There will be plenty for Tina and I to have for lunch tomorrow, Darren won't mind as it is his worst nightmare!
Death in Paradise tonight, I like the new guy, they have all been well cast and quirky.

  1. Blimey, that was quite a busy and arduous day! Think you could have skipped the gym as the gardening gave you plenty of exercise. But then you’d have missed the sky photo opportunities. The driveway is looking great. So much different than it was, but a lot of work. I think you and Tina deserved a very well earned rest after all the toil. The gratin looks very tasty, which reminds me that I’ve not had courgette for ages.
The triffid is looking very colourful......and large!

  2. We both tend to get stuck in if we start something like that, but we were both more than ready to stop for today! It is looking as if it is cared for now, but still a lot to do.May do a bit tomorrow, then again......
