Beverley trip

Was late to get up today and not overly inclined to get active. Did make a start on some household chores and then Tina suggested I go along for a trip to Beverley with her and Darren. She had vouchers for us to have a meal at Pizza Express and then they were going to the cinema and I could have a wander round Beverley and meet them later, or catch the bus home if I had done enough wandering. Had a lovely meal and then I went across to St Mary's church when they set off to see the film.

A lovely church and a thoroughly charming man doing the greeting and telling me about the church. I will put a selection from inside, no explanation needed really except the amazing ceiling in the chancel depicts early kings.

The do have a table with a mirror on so that you can look at the ceiling without straining your neck too much. He told me about the hare with a pilgrim's staff and scrip in St Michael's chapel and the fact that it was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's white rabbit.
The sun was out when I left so the church looked great.
I walked right through the town and thought I would go and see the minster as well passing Monks Walk on the way.
A couple of pictures of the outside of the minster, they had run out of photography passes so that will be on another day for inside pictures.

I had a sit down and coffee and cake and then made my way back through the town. Just liked this street name, no other reason.
I went to the bus station and sat on the bench and decided to check my phone. The bus came in and I got on, settled down, then realised I had left my shopping on the bench!! Rushed down, told the driver I had to get off as I had left a bag, he let me out and left!! Got the bag but had an hour to wait for the next bus, oops. So I went for another wander and found this lovely little Coronation garden.

Really must go to Beverley on the bus and take a sketchpad along. Interestingly there were gravestones along the wall at either side of the garden. Saw this really unusual plant.
Just a quick picture of the sky before I left to make a second attempt at getting a bus home!

Had a couple of hours indoors before I went to the concert at the URC. The cellist was absolutely brilliant, the pianist was very good but I didn't care for the pieces he chose to play as solos. But a very nice evening and I won a prize in the raffle!

  1. A trip out always beats household chores, specially if it involves a meal out. I’ve driven through Beverley a few times, but never stopped there. The church looks lovely and you’ve captured some great pics of it. Very colourful windows and fantastic ceiling! The minster looks promising for pics inside and is a good reason to go again another day.
Dog And Duck Lane is great. It really should be near Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate :-)
Maybe missing the bus home was a good thing, otherwise you wouldn’t have got those really nice sky shots at the end.
A busy day and an evening out too. You’ll sleep well tonight.

    1. An unexpected trip and Beverley is certainly a place you could spend happy hours in. It was cold today but really enjoyable and I now know my way around and where the bus station is in relation to everything else. Missing the bus was okay as that is a really nice little garden.
Rounded off with some nice music, all in all a very good day, but I am tired now!
