Just a flower tale!

Not a lot to report today, the amaryllis this morning was one flower fully open and the second on the way.

It really tipped down with rain this morning but luckily had eased off when I made my way to the charity shop. I did a lot of steaming again today but said I needed a break so sat down for almost an hour pricing up dvd's. Another volunteer started today, she had been out of work for a bit and is going to do three sessions a week to get some recent work experience in. I got some ingredients on the way home to make a 'spiced parsnip gratin with ginger cream'. It is a recipe in one of the books I got at the charity shop last week.
I had ordered some photos to send to my friends that don't have access to the internet or rarely use it and I also ordered a print of a photograph I had taken of Scarborough mere just before we moved. It was one of the photos that just seemed 'right' at the time. I had a frame so put it in straight away rather that it end up in a pile of things somewhere never to be seen again!
I thought I would try and paint the amaryllis this afternoon, but couldn't find the acrylics, maybe I decided I wouldn't be needing them, so settled for water colours on a fairly large canvas. Not a fantastic image but at least it got me doing a bit of painting which can't be bad.
I hadn't got sufficient ingredients to make the gratin as planned, so it was more like creamy soup with vegetables, but Tina and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will try again another day.
The triffid now has two completely open flowers and could well have a third one tomorrow. But hopefully I will have taken some different photos during the day.....
Listening to the new cello cd and have ordered another one by a different cellist composer I hadn't heard of.

  1. They certainly are amazing flowers. I’m surprised that they don’t all just fall over all the time. Nature does do a good job of designing these things. Your painting is really good. I always wish I could just sit and do that. It’s a great talent to have.
Glad you got the mere photo printed and into a frame. I remember it well. As you say everything in it seems just right. Definitely deserving of wall space.
Gratin....soup...who cares when it tastes good :-)

  2. It doesn't seem to need staking at the moment, like you say, nature is amazing.
The print is a 6 x 8, the company said the resolution wasn't good enough for bigger, but it looks good in the frame.
I am going to check out a couple more recipes from the little book, only paid 39p for it so a bargain already.
