Gardening and closed mere - again!

The amaryllis is growing at a rate of knots, going to have four flowers and will I am sure be spectacular if it doesn't do a nose dive!
I really didn't have a lot of inclination to go to the gym this morning but as Tina was going to give me a lift there I really didn't have a valid excuse. I went through my set program and then thought I would try and find the start of the Trans Pennine Trail as I have been meaning to for a while. Quite icy on the pavements this morning so I found the trail and just went a little way, will explore more when I am not likely to slip and fall down.

Did a bit of shopping on the way home and pottered about a bit indoors before Tina came in and we had lunch. We sat discussing the lawn at the back and I was saying that I would shape it a bit and get some bulbs in. I did the shaping but was working for well  over an hour and had then had enough so the bulbs and general preparing and branch clearing didn't happen. One picture of before I started and two after, one from upstairs to give a better idea.

I did manage to slide down the bank and land on my bottom once, but no damage done!
I sat and read for a while when I came in, I have started Goodnight Mister Tom and is is delightful so far.
The day was bright and I thought I would walk to the mere if it stayed that way and try and see the sunset there. Sadly the gate was closed again which was a little disappointing. You can see the sunset over a fence but it is quite a way from the mere.
I had even taken a flask and was going to settle on a bench. Hung about a bit and took some pictures, will get to actually be on a bench watching it go down one of these days.

Not planning to do a great deal this evening. Hopefully, weather permitting I will get a bit more done in the garden tomorrow.

  1. Are you sure that’s a flower and not a triffid? Bet it’ll look grande when it’s in full bloom.
The trail is definitely a thing to do in the better weather, and when you have a flask, sarnies and cake with you :-)
The lawn looks so different, and there looks to be a lot more than an hours work there. Have to say the slipping down the bank on your bum made me smile.
Great sunset pics. Shame you didn’t get through the gate again. Maybe it shuts before sunset every night. I’m sure you’ll be able to find out.
Don’t go mad in the garden tomorrow. Take it easy.

  2. Would have been nice to get the reflections in the water, but glad I took the wander along even though I couldn't get mere side so to speak.
The triffid, good name, is growing visibly each day, won't be that long before the flowers are open.
Tina was pleased with the look of the lawn when she got home. I explained that there are a lot more bulbs coming through under the trees but there are also many brambles and dead brambles that need to be cleared and dug up where possible.
I think the trail is definitely something to aim for, it follows the old railway line I think.
