I went to the shop early, forgetting it is Sunday so it was closed! Came back and went outside straight away to start on the storage cupboards and out houses. The garden stuff was dumped quickly in the move, end of the day and raining to boot, and it hadn't been well organised beforehand. One of the jobs that none of us have really had the time or inclination to get around to. So today I decided was the day! The outhouse that was probably the outside loo had stuff thrown in anyhow, so I moved everything out and Got the brush ready!
The building is old and in need of attention, there are a couple of slates missing, so gaps in the roof, but it was pretty dry in there. We are going to check and see if the outhouses as well as the house are listed before we decide what to do next. It looked a bit better when I had finished, but I could remove everything for fear of bringing the roof in completely.
I sorted a couple of dry and newer storage cupboards as well, no cobwebs there, but all the paint from the decorating was stored in them and we couldn't find half of the gardening tools etc. So this outhouse is now better used.
I had to get a garden storage unit moved to get into the other cupboard which I imaging had been the for coal. The back wall seemed a little damp, but nothing too bad.
There was a hibernating butterfly in there, Darren heard me scream at the cat who I managed to scare away before she got it!
I put some stuff in there that we won't be needing for a bit, then locked it up so that the butterfly could go back to sleep. When Tina came home she made up some sugar water that we put in there for it.
The other cupboards are now much better organises as well but I didn't take pictures, as they just needed rearranging. Darren and Tina took boxes to the tip this afternoon and the rubbish I had sorted out today.
Found this great scythe in the first cupboard, will clean it up at some point.
We had a few plants that had been reduced so I planted up the metal basket shaped planter I got a while ago.
The ones that were left I put in the bed near the snowdrops we uncovered yesterday.
Tina and I took a walk down the shop and got a few bits, then we got and had dinner. I have sat with my feet up this afternoon struggling to stay awake. Will go down and watch Vera with Darren and Tina later.
Lots achieved today....again. I love the old outhouses, they are so useful too. That roof look in need of major attention. Definitely needs a few new slates, and some of the woodwork looks a bit rotten too. I’d have thought if the house is a listed building then they’ll come under it too. Still reasonably usable as they are though for gardening bits. Great butterfly and I’m pleased you managed to stop the cat getting at it. We don’t seem to see as many these days as we used to. Even the cabbage whites seem pretty scarce nowadays. You should definitely clean up the scythe, and I wouldn’t mind a go at sharpening it, not that you intend to do a lot of scything I wouldn’t think!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy Vera. At least it means you’ll sit and relax for a couple of hours!
They are great, just have character, but they are in need of some tlc that's for sure.
DeleteThat is a peacock butterfly, haven't seen one of them for ages, so I was very relieved my screaming stopped Blue in her tracks!! Would be great if you sharpen the scythe next time you visit.
Vera was very good, something about her, being a geordie helps too!!
