I still have folders of work that I did at college over fifty years ago. I gave some away before I moved to Scarborough. I had a few pencil drawings that I thought would be good to let see daylight for a bit, as I doubt anyone will want to keep the contents of the folders when I am not around! I sorted out three pencil drawings done when I was seventeen I should think and one watercolour I did when I lived in Peterborough, so not so long ago! I took them along to the framing shop, was there for a while, had a job convincing him that the budget range would do and eventually gave in to signing them as he was quite persistent. You don't want to know how much budget framing for four pictures comes to, but lets just say I hope I am around to enjoy then for a while!
And no Mike, I didn't use a ruler on the bottom one! I came home and wrote some letters before catching the bus to Freeport. We wanted some shelving that you can use in the cupboards to utilise the space better and we had bought the first ones in Pound Stretchers. I had a bit of lunch there and on the way back to the bus I called in to the sop where I got the garden ornaments but just got one of the globes to put a tea light in, they were reduced to £6.
Probably need a couple more to light the room up enough not to have a light on!
I got off at the post office in the estate on the way back, posted my letters and then made my was to the house where the U3A group were meeting for Scrabble. Saw this building and thought it was a very strange time of year to decide to have your roof repaired. Maybe there had been a fire, but there were no signs of it.
There were four ladies and me playing Scrabble, when they have that number one person does the scoring while four play. A friendly group of ladies, about my age. We had two games and a cuppa and biscuits in the interval. It was not overly competitive and they have dictionaries and two let words out for reference. I enjoyed it and one of the ladies gave me a lift home. I will become a member and then may join the craft group as well.
Starting at the charity shop tomorrow, haven't been here two months yet so getting involved quite quickly.
I remember the watercolour and the lawnmower, but not the other two. Glad your getting them framed. I can imaging it being extremely expensive, but worth it. I suppose they drawings are antiques now.
ReplyDeleteLike the globe, very colourful.
I hadn’t realised the scrabble group was a University of the 3rd Age thing. They do a lot of things. Do remember hearing a bit about it some time ago. Glad you enjoyed it, and you’re definitely getting involved in things at a fair rate. That’s a good thing though. Wish I could do the same.
Good luck for tomorrow. Not that you’ll need it, you’ll be great.
They were just of models that came in but both good likenesses and pretty good observational drawings I think.
ReplyDeleteI did join the U3A in Scarborough, went to an art group for a few times but didn't find them very welcoming or helpful.
It will be nice to get the first session at the charity shop out of the way.
