Amaryllis and a bit more gardening.

This morning the amaryllis was changing again, growing almost visibly.

After a morning doing some much needed chores I went out to buy a birthday card and got some shopping. On the way out the pansies have taken well and the snowdrops are quite stunning, I have found a few in the back garden as well.

Lots of banging and clattering going on in the museum garden and men up at the top of the wall, we got some additional bricks in out garden, but at least the wall shouldn't fall down now!
I spent a couple of hours in the garden this afternoon I wanted to clear some of the brambles and see what was underneath the leaves near the big tree and wanted to get a bit of garden dug by the outside of the walled garden wall so that I could plant up the gladioli bulbs.

The 'after' pictures may not look that different but I actually did a lot of clearance. The pink truck was full here of twigs and lots of bramble stems, I filled it a couple more times after that.
The nettles I dug up had very well established roots!
When I moved on to a bit of digging I managed to bend one of the tines on my new border fork, not sure if it was the massive roots or this old spanner that was the culprit.
I did dig a big enough area to get the twenty bulbs in by the wall, I used the new bulb planting gadget that I really didn't get on with that well, maybe I need more practice. I will put after shots. although, as it said it won't appear that I did much.

One of the amaryllis flowers is now almost completely open, should be in full bloom in the morning.
At the concert on Saturday they played some pieces by a composer that I hadn't heard of. Adrien Francois Servais. It turns out that he was a brilliant cellist who also composed for the cello. I ordered a cd of some of his works and am listening to it as I type. Very lovely so far.
Holby later, won't get to bed too late as I am aching a bit and I have the charity shop in the morning.

  1. That is a triffid! You should sit and watch it for an hour as see if you can spot it growing. It would be a great candidate for a bit of stop motion photography.
The after pics do look different to the befores. You can see that a lot of work has gone into it. It’s a garden on such a massive scale. I thought Scarborough looked bigger than Welland and would keep you occupied, which it did, but this is a diffent level altogether. Do you ever wish you were back to somewhere with lots a slabs with tiny bits of garden poking through? :-)
Hope you get a good nights sleep and feel raring to go to the shop in the morning.

  2. I sometimes think the garden is beyond my capabilities, but I will definitely give it my best shot. It probably makes at least ten on Welland!!
The triffid is amazing, I expect I will be taking another picture of it tomorrow.
I have had a restful evening, yawning well though!
