Out in the garden

This morning it was a bit cooler andI went out early to make a start on some clearing. I started doing some strimming but then decided to try and do something with the bed where the magnolia is. Under the tree was full of poppies, weds and the dying off branches of a plant that I am not sure whether it is a weed or garden plant. Not that it worries me except the flowers a pretty for a while but it then sprawls and looks complete mess! A couple of views of the bed,
I had planted a couple of bulbs somewhere behind that tree and thought they had not taken, then you couldn’t see anything anyway. I had marked the spots but couldn’t remember what they were. I was amazed to find two canna lilies, lucking I hadn’t pulled them out with a handful of other growth! One is even flowering which is amazing as they were very short on light or water!
The garden cart was overflowing and the garden bin hadn’t been emptied yet so I got the rubble sack down to help. Both cart and sack have been emptied into the garden bin now,
I did more clearing under the tree than usual and even sup out the weed/plant as I decided I didn’t not it there! The bed is now a bit bare so I needed plants!
After lunch I went to Countdown a bought a few plants which were definitely past their best and took them straight out and into the bed.
I forgot to mention that for the first hour or so I was being deafened by continuous fighter planes circling, and was wishing they would go and practice somewhere else!
We have had a couple of short and very light showers but I am not watering tonight. Not looking like we will get the promised storm, it seems to miss us every time.
Tina had been out and called me down to take a photo, the little drop of rain had made the Snails decide to climb the wall!
I had a final walk round the garden to check the new plants and took a picture of the everlasting flowers which are lovely this year, and they are all planted in a clump, not the way your u are supposed to do it!
Tina took a few of her candles out of the moulds before o she went out, so will finish with that photo.

  1. You have been busy again. It’s not quite so bad when it’s a bit cooler, and no watering tonight which is good. That bed was a bit “unruly”. The lily looks lovely in flower. I bet they’ll be glad to see a bit of sun and rain now. The before and after pics are certainly different. A good bit of work, hard work, there. I knew you’d have to buy more plants 😊 What’s that, batch 99 this year so far?
I like the everlasting flowers. Never heard of them. I think they look really good all bunched together. Whoever said they shouldn’t be planted like that isn’t the boss of the world, so sod ‘em!
Looks like you had quite a bit of rubbish. I don’t know how you get it all in the bin. You must stand for ages cutting it into bits.
The three snails make a good pic, and the close up is good. At least the can’t run away before you get chance to focus 😊
The candles do look really nice. I like the colour too.

  2. Some of it was hard going, bending to clear properly under the tree was fun. I am glad I dug out the plants I don’t want to be there next year, usually I think about it and then don’t get round to it. The when it’s winter I think about it and they have died down and I can’t remember exactly where they were!
The everlasting flowers are sometimes called straw flowers. The flowers are already like dried flowers and they last for ages indoors.
Hopefully do a bit more tomorrow, weather and window men permitting!
That snail has a funky shell!
