Taking it easy

It was a late night yesterday but what a good evening we had. We both like Martin Shaw and he was brilliant, but we also both really enjoyed the play, everything about it was spot on. Some pics from yesterday courtesy of Tina,
One of me outside the restaurant, one of me dinking the flower tea and one of me opposite the theatre.
Didn’t rush to get moving this morning but did some chores and a bit of jigsaw. Took Tina across the road to have lunch, she had a busy day tidying up loose ends getting her hair cut etc. After lunch we went to the local antique reclamation centre as Tina had seen a fountain she thought would be good in the parish hall garden. I wandered around and fell in love with an otter garden ornament, the guy said I could have it for a tenner, so you won’t be surprised that I brought it home! Tina bought the fountain for a lot more, I will go round and photograph it when it has been delivered. Haven’t decided where the otter will live yet.
We also took the rubble sack that was full again to the tip on the way back.
I decided to take a walk up to the golf club as they had the Hornsea Art Society exhibition on for a week. A very good exhibition and I could get a cuppa there as well.
The scaffolding is down form the church now after months and it is looking at its best.
Darren and Tina are having an evening out as Tina will be off on retreat tomorrow so we won’t see her for five weeks.
I have done some watering and taking it easy now.

Off to York

Will do a quick entry as nearly tomorrow! This morning I popped round to see Sher, took her the moss I had saved and bought two plants.
The spider plant is apparently my birth month plant which seems appropriate!
I pottered a bit this morning and did some jigsaw.
We set off for York this afternoon, and parked near Clifford’s Tower.
Ther was a carousel nearby.
We passed the opera house and a side street with umbrellas on the way to the restaurant.
We went to a Vietnamese restaurant, I had a lovely meal and had a lotus flower tea, literally!
We had a quick look at the Minster before heading back to the theatre.
A lovely little venue, great stage scenery.
The play was brilliant and Martin Shaw lived up to our expectations, it built up to a very powerful end. We were just a few rows back so could see and hear perfectly. A good drive home and in just after 11.30pm.

Fairly busy day

This morning I walked to the post office as I had a package to send, then collected my prescription and did a bit of shopping on the way back. Quite hot out already when the sun was out. I went out into the walled garden and decided to try and do a more thorough job in sections than trying to do half a job quickly. I will post the picture of the side I was gong to start on that I took yesterday.
I emptied some pots that had nothing growing in them now and cleared as I went. I also emptied the vintage cast iron planter I had and moved it and planted it up.
I weeded the corner stand of bonsai trees.
Thought I would do the next side.
I weeded the two pots that have a few bonsais in. I will have to do the repotting and root trimming next year.
Another session in the garden and then a bit of a rest before getting dinner.
I did reluctantly go out and do some watering after dinner as I will be put tomorrow evening so no watering then! Bit achey this evening so not doing much although I would like to get a couple of letter written.

Repotting rescued Christmas trees!

I went along to the banking hub and wore the bottle earrings, so that caused some smiles.
I went into the garden with the objective of emptying a large planter which had had a willow tree in so that I could repot the Christmas tree that is in a sink by the back door. I had thought I would tidy up a bit as well and weed the bonsai tree dishes. So pics of the intentions.
I hadn’t anticipated how difficult, and heavy it would be to remove, had to have a breather then!
Cleaned the plater up and then started on the tree in the sink!
Trying to get that loosened made emptying the planter seem easy! I asked Tina to help me lift it out, somewhat hampered by the root down the plug hole!
Then cutting through the matted roots to reduce its size took a while, but eventually it was on the patio!
After lunch I decided to dig out the other Christmas tree which was being overwhelmed by the large cordyline, and weeds!
Digging it out wasn’t too bad and I cleaned up another planter and now that one is on the patio too!

Not done yet! Sorted out another planter and the new cordyline joined them on the patio.
Quite a bit of tidying up to do and I also put some of the moss on tray and watered it and have messaged Sher to see if it will be any use to her for terrariums.
When I had breaks I did a bit to the jigsaw.
I filled the watering cans and did some watering before going round to see Sarah and David. Maybe I will get to the tidying in the walled garden and weeding round the bonsais tomorrow!

Boot sale and Burton Constable

Went to the boot sale with Darren and had our usual breakfast. Won’t be having it for the next couple of weeks though as the people who run it are off to
Florida tomorrow. I got the first bargain of the day for 50p! Never get all of the back!
A great motorbike in the car park as we were leaving.
Had a chat with Any before we left to go to Burton Constable. Darren had an archery competition and I thought I would go round the house today and maybe do a sketch inside. There was a craft fair on there and that’s where I got the second bargain of the day, this little metal wren was £2.60.
They have one of the rats in the grounds.
I asked at the desk in the house if it was okay to do a sketch, she said she had never been asked that before but couldn’t see why not. I took photos round the house while I looked for a suitable spot to sit and draw. They do have shirts dotted round for the visitors to use.
I did a sketch sitting at the end of the long landing.
I went over to watch the archery for a bit.
I got the car key of Darren so that I could collect a few plants that I had bought.
I then went and did. Very quick sketch in one of the courtyards before we came home.
Got on with dinner when I got in then watched the very tense Euros match which England won on penalties.
Just watered the bonsais and now relaxing and feeling tired.
