Fun and games!

This morning I had agreed to go and prepare vegetables for a monthly meal put on for isolated people and volunteers at The URC church. They were catering for about thirty two people so I prepared two large saucepans full of potatoes and five large white cabbages. When I had finished and had a cup of tea I went to find my coat and it was missing! They presumed that a lady that had gone off as an escort on the bus to collect more people to attend the meal had picked it up and taken it by mistake. The problem was that my house keys were in the pocket so I couldn’t get in at home. I went for a walk down to the sea as it was a lovely day again. Was going to return to the church when the lady was due back. There was mist in the distance over the sea so it was actually quite difficult to make out the horizon.

When the lady returned she did not have my coat so then general panic searched no set in! They fetched several coats that weren’t mine and I was beginning to think what a pain it would be to have to get more keys cut. Then it was found in a corner on a box of bric a brac! Panic over. By this time I had got talking to a lady who was a bit lonely and her friends hadn’t come to the meal, so ended up staying and keeping her company.
This morning Rob, who mows the lawn, cleared some of the bushes at the back of the garden where I had cleared the ivy. He cut then down to ground level so I went out with a work to try and dig them out. Hard going and Tina came out and took over and removed some. Then we had a drink in the summer house. When we came indoors we had missed a delivery of new furniture for the summer house, but luckily the rather large parcels were left at a  shop over the road. Tina and I collected them together and unpacked them in the walled garden. Tina had to go out then so I got the old furniture moved out and got the new set into the summer house, looks pretty good.
The little radio was 50p at the boot sale. It had not been good as the top of the aerial had been broken off, but Tina managed to pull it out with her teeth and it works fine now!
Haven’t been quite so achey today but don’t plan to do much this evening.

  1. That’ll teach you not to volunteer for things, or not to go in a coat that looks like its jumble sale material 😊 Seriously though, it’s good it was found as keys are not cheap to get cut these days, and such a lot of faffing to go to. At least you ended up getting dinner out of it, so that’s a bonus. Plan a little trip to the sea in the interim is always good.
Good idea to dig the stumps out that Rob left. We all know what you’re like for falling over them! Nice that the Rev gave you a hand too, as you’d have probably struggled on your own.
The summerhouse looks really good with that new furniture in it. It’s definitely lacking something on the walls though. I’m sure you can come up with something to sort that out. How about painting a window on that back wall with a view out over a lake? Wouldn’t take you long and I know you like to keep occupied! 😊

  2. It made for an interesting morning for sure! Good excuse to go and look at the sea though!
Tina is better at root digging than me so was really glad she came out. We intend to move another couple tomorrow.
Mmm, a mural in the summer house, maybe!
