Tina and I set off about 9 am for the trip to Wakefield, which took about two hours and the drive wasn't great for Tina because of so much surface water, but she made good run and didn't hit any traffic jams. We met up with Sam, Tina's friend at The Hepworth Wakefield art gallery. We had a drink and sausage sandwich together and then I went off to explore while they had a meeting. There were some very traditional sculptures which I like.
Not surprisingly there was a lot of Barbara Hepworth sculptures on display and it was very interesting.
I particularly liked an artist called Gertrude Hermes, some fantastic lino cuts, has made me feel like having a go at lino cuts, haven't tried that since I was at school.

This is one of her lino cuts, some skill involved there! It has taken an age to get these photos on so I will write a bit more about the day but post more pictures tomorrow. When we left the art gallery the weather was better so we decided to go to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park this afternoon. It was very muddy when we walked down to the Wave of Poppies. It was lovely as you approached and the actual display I found quite emotional. I took a lot of pictures so will post some tomorrow. We got the shuttle bus back to the entrance of the park to save getting even more muddy. We had a drink and cake and looked in the shop, then we made our way to the hotel, Cedar Court. We went for a swim, a reasonable sized pool and then we went in the hot tub. I started the blog then, but had to save it when we went to eat as it was so slow! Back in the room now, we had dinner in the hotel and it was a good meal. Quite a bit of exercise today so we won't be in bed late.

  1. The art gallery looks a nice place to visit. I like the Lino print too, and remember doing them at school. I was never very artistic with my cuts, but enjoyed the process. You should have another go, maybe a Scarborough castle print.
I look forward to the poppy photos when you get a decent wifi signal to upload them.

  3. The sculpture park must be quite large to have a bus run through. Good you got a swim as I know you miss it. Have not been myself due to the ear.
Look forward to seeing the poppy photos. Xx
