Been a grey and murky day but this morning I iced the four Christmas cakes and made some icing decorations to add on later. Will take a picture when they are complete, if I am happy with them! It is surprising how long it takes.....Tina came in at lunchtime for a bit, when she went out I decided to have a short ride on the bike as I hadn't been on it for about a week. That is partly due to the strong winds and rain but also the niggling pain in my ankle and twinges in my knee have been a factor. So, before I stop using it altogether thought I would take a short ride, check out if there were bike racks at the swimming pool and then detour and come back via Peasholm Drive. There were small racks, so if I get back into swimming I can at least use the bike to get up that steep hill! I have to go over a bridge on a fairly main road and the view was really like looking into the wild!
Then took a picture of the lovely Glen from the top end of Peasholm Drive.
Coming down the drive the trees and bushes still look pretty on a murky December day.
I have been talking to a friend from years ago and she remembered when we were in the WI in our twenties we had made a sleigh with Santa and toys and two reindeer, one being Rudolf of course. I made the reindeer and sleigh and other members made the Santa and all the toys in the back.  I knew I had a picture somewhere so sorted through three large boxes and eventually found it!
I have never liked the oven here so this evening Tina and I have been off to order another one to arrive on Thursday so that I can have a bit of a practice before Christmas.

  1. Quite a busy day for you then. Icing the cakes is no quick job, and bike rides and shopping too. You've got more energy than me!
I've never really seen the Glen from that view, although I've seen it the other way around a few times. Maybe I'll have a walk up the hill next time I'm there.
What are the reindeer and sleigh made from? They look really good.
A new cooker probably means lots of test cooking, so poor Darren and Vicarage will have to suffer lots of sampling! Tough job, but someone has to do it :-)

    1. I made the sleigh from ply, the reindeer were large soft toys with wired legs, one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time, you, life long problem for me!!

    2. As you say Mike, it's a tough job! I just hope it cooks better than the old one: mind you, that won't be hard.
