Hornsea horticultural show

Yesterday evening and early this morning I manned the parish hall to direct people to the church to get their tickets and then showed them where to display their exhibits. I took some photos in the hall but not in the church where the vegetables and flowers and baking were.

I left when the judges arrived and no more exhibits were due. I had had a phone call saying my pottery wren was ready so Darren kindly took me up to Freeport to collect it. We had a cup of coffee while we were there.
It could have been a bit darker but I haven’t done any pottery painting for a while. I then walked down to the shops to get rolls for lunch then did a bit of the jigsaw. After lunch I went to support the show and see if I had had any success with my entries. I had made a cake especially and entered a quilt, cards, house plants and a picture. I got two firsts, a second and two thirds. The cake was put forward for ‘best in show’ but Tina said she couldn’t have me winning that, to be fair, people would soon have said it was a fix!
There were some huge pumpkins in the church!
Since dinner I have been working on the nightmare of a puzzle and it is now finished!
We won’t be buying any more miniature ones tomorrow that’s for sure.
Going to relax and watch Casualty now, not that it is likely to be very relaxing!

  1. Just looking at those pics I can see there were quite a few entries, and some very nice ones. You obviously have some talented people living in and around Hornsea. It’s good they want to support the local church activities too. I bet Tina was pleased with the amount of entries.
The little wren turned out ok. Maybe you’ll be tempted to go back again another time and try something else. Darren is too cheap. A trip to Freeport is worth coffee and cake 😊
Wowwww, look at all those certificates and rosettes! You did really well. Shame you couldn’t get the best of show, but it would have caused local gossip no doubt. Next year you’ll have to enter under a pseudonym so no one knows it’s you 😊
Blimey, that is a big pumpkin! Perfect for Halloween. You could have entered your giant courgette.
Glad to see the jigsaw finished. I know how hard you’ve worked on that. I can see why it was such a nightmare to do!
    Enjoy your program.

  2. It was a good show and a good few visitors came to have a look round. I only decided on entries at the last minute so was pleased to do well.
Wren collected and jigsaw finished, can sleep easy tonight!
