New Year’s Eve

A very frosty start to the day so not a good morning for walking as it was icy too. The bird baths were frozen, Tina went out to top them up.mor at least, remove the ice first just after lunch and you can see just how frozen they still were!
Tina went for a haircut early and we sat and did a crossword puzzle together when she returned. After lunch and sorting the bird water and fox food Tina took me out for a ride to Bridlington. We went to the garden centre first and amazingly left empty handed which is probably a first! The trees were stunning in the car park with the sun catching them.
Then Tina drove to a piece of the coast we hadn’t been to before, just between Bridlington town centre and Sewerby Hall. It was a really lovely spot.

50p to park and nowhere to get a drink so a cheap trip out in lovely weather, if a bit on the cold side. The sun looked absolutely huge on the way home and very bright, took these pics  from the car.
I got this great calendar for Christmas, full of unusual words and the antiquated and obscure name days, so yu may be getting little snippets on the blog.
No unusual entries for tomorrow’s date, just New Year’s Day and First Foot Day. The unusual word I have picked is Ombrellino (n): A small parasol, canopy, or sunshade.
Wishing everyone a very happy new year. See you next year!

Canal and moon!

I have had another fairly restful day, well, not too much walking as still resting up. It was a lovely sky this morning, would have been a good day to be at the sea front! But managed to catch a bit of it through the window.
A fairly quiet morning and then Tina and I had a drive to the canal near Driffield. We couldn’t wander too far as there was very little paved path and the rest looked extremely muddy and slippery. The water was high, there had been fields looking like lates on the drive there. Took quite a few pictures and although the lock hadn’t been used a lot lately and the weed was gathered on the surface, the actual water was still very clear as you will see in one of the pictures.

We were going to call into a garden centre on the way home but it was closed. There was a farm shop that was open though and we got a few bits of fruit and veg from there including a lovely cauliflower which Tina made into cauliflower cheese with bacon this evening.
This afternoon I have done a bit more sorting and started reading an Agatha Christie short story. When we were clearing away after tea Tina spotted the moon so a few pics to finish today.

Taking it easy

I had a restless night last night, my legs were aching but I think it was just because I had overdone the walking while cutting back the pain killers. So no proper walks today although I haven’t just sat around either. I did go to the local post box early this morning before it’s one a day collection at nine. We had a shopping delivery come so I helped get that in and packed away.
On Sunday we had passed Cherry Lane garden centre but didn’t call in as we had been a while in Beverley. Tina asked if I wanted a trip there today as it didn’t involve much walking, they had a sale, and we could top up the bird food! We had a good wander round and it was very quiet, only about six cars in the car park! We drove into a bit of bad weather on the way back, some silly car shots now.......

I did get quite a lot of bird food but also a couple of bits for me, one edible and one extremely silly.
On Sunday Tina got me a Peter Rabbit storage box and today I have been gathering up some ornaments and have stored them in it. I will keep them and change then around again in a few months, I rally have too many around the place at the moment,
I took another picture of the church when I put the fox food out. Not a colourful sky but it was a wintry light.
No snow here, there was quite a lot of rain in the night though as we saw a lot of water on the paths and fields today.

Morning walk with Tina

Another lovely morning and Tina joined me for a walk  sea front. I was actually aching a bit today as I did quite a bit of walking yesterday and have cut down on the pain killers. But we walked to Hucklebury’s and had a cup of hot chocolate. Took a couple of pictures before we got there.

I took another one while I sat on the bench and waited for Tina to bring the drinks.
We walked down to the Floral Hall and a bit further as Tina spotted that the Hug volunteers were working on the flower beds.
I have had a lazy afternoon resting my legs, watch some tv and dozed through some of it!
This evening I am listening to an audio book and had started some colouring which has now attracted Pandora! Ever the helpful cat!
I watch a lot of Agatha Christie programs on tv but have never read any, so have ordered a book of Marple short stories. That should arrive next week some time.

A bit more variety

It was a lovely bright morning so I thought I would go for a walk. Tina suggested the Trans Pennine Trail which seemed like a good idea, although you do have to walk a fair way by my recent standards to get to it! I kept my gloves on as it was quite cold, I have found that I can take photos on the phone with them on but cannot zoom in on anything, so full screen pictures it is. The first one of the church as I headed out.
One at the start of the trail, it really is a nice walk.
Then a couple more when I got to the bridge.

I had made a small flask to take with me but there are no benches on the trail. When I got to the end I decided not to walk up to look at the sea but head homeward so that I could have a sit done in the memorial gardens. I had actually been walking quite a while be then and felt in need of a little rest!
When I got home I had a FaceTime chat with Anya and was telling her about the beanie hat with a light that I had been given. While demonstrating it she took a picture!
When Tina was back from her service in Skipsea we decided to go out for a bit as the weather was still good. We went to Beverley as she had some Lakeland vouchers. It actually clouded over on our way there but it stayed dry. She managed to get a parking place in the market square which was good and an extra bonus was that it is free to park on a Sunday!
We went to Lakeland and The Works and had a quick look in the antique centre. We took our shopping back to the car and I sat in while Tina went off to get us hot drinks. After about twenty minutes she texted to say she had ordered and was waiting. The time ticked on and in must have been another twenty minutes! She had ordered beef rolls as well as the drinks, they were amazing and huge with what seemed like half a cow in them and plenty of gherkins!! So despite her having to hang about so long they were really good.
When we got home I went out to put the fox food in the usual places. The skies had cleared again and it was a lovely evening.
Quite a busy day and plenty of exercise for the knee so I decided to watch a film I had recorded. Hidden Numbers, it was really good and base on a true story. Pandora decided to sit on my lap for a bit which was nice.
A quiet evening now I think!

Boxing Day

It has been a very easy going day so not a lot to write about. I did go for a walk this morning, I walked the perimeter of the park but on the roads, not actually in the park. Took my about forty minutes but I am still fairly slow using the sticks. Not rally icing them a lot indoors which is an improvement. I am also much more comfortable at night which is a big bonus.
Tina and I watched the modern version of The Secret Garden this afternoon, quite different to the original and darker I think. A long time since I watched the original but I think I preferred it.
When I went out to put the fox food out I took a couple of pictures of inter flowers, nothing too exciting.

This evening we played a virtual game with Anya and family, we both had the game Santa vs Jesus. No prizes for guessing which team we were! It was quite good fun and Santa’s team won! There are four games in the box so there may be a re-match before long!

Christmas Day

It has been a lovely day, quiet and restful. We opened presents before Tina went off to take her services, I was very lucky, may put a couple of pictures on tomorrow. I just enjoyed looking at a couple of books and a wonderful calendar that Tina sent for this morning and just got the dining room ready for out dinner to be delivered! Amazing dinners they were too, they arrived in foil trays, we just had to plate them up, we all picked different meat!

My lamb shank was so bit a good part of it is wrapped up in the fridge now! I just took a picture of my dessert, which was very rich.
This afternoon I did go out for a walk, I decided to cut through the park but hadn’t realised just how muddy the path would be so it took quite a bit longer than I had thought.

I talked to the American family this afternoon, they are having a quieter Christmas than usual. Then we watched Tina open her birthday presents and cards and followed up with a game of Scrabble. I am relaxing back in my sitting room now.

Christmas Eve

This morning I went into the town early, Tina and I both needed prescriptions collecting and I thought the chemist might close at lunch time. I also went and got a cake for a certain persons birthday! I know, I usually make them, but not this time! It began hailing as I walked home, it was very cold.
Just before lunch time the weather had cheered up a bit and I decided to walk down to the sea front. A bitingly cold wind so I kept my gloves on, even when taking photos! The sea was quite rough and very dark.

I went along to Hucklebury’s and had a hot chocolate and as I headed back the sun was on the sea, so a few mor pictures!

On the way home the sky looked quite dramatic.
Back at home Tina had put a nativity she had sent for onto the front lawn. We had got in prepared yesterday evening,
Some weeks ago I sent for some material from a place in America. Tina did get some as well but have just taken a photo of mine. They had a good sale and the postage was very reasonable.
Happy Christmas everyone.
