Watercolour workshop and a trip out

This morning was the fourth and last watercolour workshop that I had signed up for. Today we were learning about light and shade and grading a single pigment, either by starting with dark or light. We did practice pieces first.
Then she demonstrated painting tonal pictures using one colour. Pam the instructor always does tonal sketches ‘on site’ and takes photos to refer to when she paints a larger, final picture in colour at her studio.
This afternoon Tina took me on a trip to York to have a look at a different auction house as it was a viewing day. We stopped and had McDonalds for lunch. The weather was terrible but Tina manages well. When we arrived at the auction house we parked next to a great van. Decorated with stickers not painted as my cars were!

Pretty cool!
The weather was really bad on the way home so quite a bit of puddle dodging and a spectacular flash of fork lightening as we neared home,
No plans for this evening, Living Well meeting tomorrow.

  1. You’ve got a lot out of that course of lessons and I’m sure you’ll put it all together into good use. I looked at the practice pieces you did and thought they looked good. Then I scrolled down and saw the single pigment pics. They’re fantastic! I think they’re brilliant and I’d happily have one framed on my wall. The palm trees and boat is so atmospheric. Doesn’t really need colour at all. You are good.
It’s not been the best of days for driving around, specially up your way. Nice to have a little trip out though.
The stickers on the van look ok, but not much skill involved in doing it. A bit different when you spend several hours with a diddy paint pot and brush!
Definitely a bit of feet up and a rest ready for another busy day tomorrow then.

  2. I have enjoyed the watercolour sessions and will try to get some practice in before I forget the techniques, I am pleased with today’s efforts, she is a good instructor.
The trip out was good and we enjoyed looking round the lots, but nothing jumping out for a bid!
